  1. For trips less than 2 weeks away they recommend doing an expedite in person at the nearest passport agency to you. See https://www.usa.gov/passport#item-34927

If you want to risk it you could do a standard expedite by mail. I did expedited processing with overnight shipping when I applied for my passport, I applied 10/26/18 and received the passport in the mail on 11/2/2018 so took exactly 1 week.  You can fill out the application form online and it will verify everything is correct, then just print it and take it to any passport application center nearest to you. See https://www.usa.gov/passport for details on the whole process.

  2. I'm in the process of filing out my n400 and I'm a little unsure as to what should be included for part 12 question 9, the question seems pretty broad. Should answers to this question include organizations I've donated money to, e.g. charities or political campaigns and if so how would you define the dates of 'membership'?

Seems like a lot of things fall under the umbrella of this question given the way it is worded things like membership of AAA, what sorts of things did you include?

  3. Hi muffinman007! Thank you for your offer! I've actually had a few ideas on improving the site and have been needing some expert help. I'll PM you the details if you are interested. Check your PM!

Visa journey has helped me a lot with my K1, AOS and ROC so I'd be happy to help out and give something back to the community ... I'm a software engineer, primarily do c# and c++ but I have some experience with web stuff, done a little php and javascript over the years.

Anyway, feel free to shoot me a PM if you need some extra input.

  4. So I'm putting my K-1 packet together, and am sorting through all our emails and skype conversations...let's just say, there's hundreds of pages. They couldn't possibly want all of those pages! So how do I choose what I conversations/emails I send? Or how many? What has everyone else done? Also, when my fiance goes for the interview, he should take all the originals correct? Thanks!

Don't send any. I sent no skype conversations and no emails no texts no love letters and I was approved. You'll read lots of posts knocking around about 'front loading' your petition (by including evidence of emails, letters etc) when the beneficiary is from certain countries. The UK is not one of the countries it is necessary to front load for. All you need to do is establish that you have met in person with in the last 2 years for this photos of the two of you together, along with boarding passes, immigration stamps, hotel receipts and the like provide great evidence of establish that you have met.

Pop over to the UK subforum and read through the posts there and ask questions for more specific UK advice.

  5. My packed 3 and medical were confirmed as logged by the DOS on the 23rd November, I received packet 4 on the 2nd December dated 30th November and with an interview date of 22nd December.

You can see more London timelines here http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/k1list.php?cfl=0&op1=g&op2=d&op3=1&op4=1&op5=10,11,12,13,14&op6=All&op7=United%20Kingdom&dfile=No

I sorted it by packet 4 received date so you can see who most recently received the packet 4 and when they sent packet 3.

  6. What scares me is how conflicting the responses seem to be about him coming for those 90 days (we're thinking more like 80, but just saying 90 for simplicity's sake). Some people are saying "Oh it's no problem" while others are giving me the fear of "no way, he'll be turned away." It seems like the people who have UK experience are taking a lighter approach. I'm thinking his origin country makes a difference?

I think the country you a travelling from probably does make a big difference. As I said I have visited twice since filling the visa petition and I have had no troubles. Like you I read lots of threads about visiting under the VWP after having filed the petition and having read lots of the scare stories I was pretty nervous when I first set out, but both trips I was fine and had no problems. Both visits were for 3 weeks but the CBP agent stamped me in with the full 90 day allowance. In my experience the number of questions I've received has been loosely proportional to the amount of time I visit for ... if it's a short trip then I've had hardly any hassle at all, longer trips have come with a couple more questions as I guess they are slightly more out of the ordinary for the majority of travellers.

Here's another question - same scenario with the lease being up in January. Boyfriend visits in early February, which gives him until early May to stay here, make wedding plans until we hear back about the medical exam. What if we still haven't heard by then? We obviously don't want to extend the 90 days, but... can he stay here for 80/90 days, fly home for a week or two, then fly back again, informing the customs agent that he is visiting his fiancee to make wedding plans? How does the tourist visa work with the 90 days? Can it be 90 days, short break, a new set of 90 days?

Technically yes you can do that, but each time you visit admission is down to the CBP agent. They could decide the fact you were here for 89 days left for 5 days and are now coming back for another period of 89 days suggests that you have intentions other than those of a tourist. Then again they might see it as well this person didn't overstay last time they were here for 89 days they probably wont this time. Unfortunately no one can tell you for certain that your plan will work, there is an element of risk involved. If I were you I'd focus more on the advice from people from visa waiver countries who have visited/ have tried to visit rather than advice from people who are just having a good old 'reckon'.

  7. Hi Andriana,

Applying for the K1 hasn't impacted my travels, as has been said by others many times before when this question is asked I don't think the CBP agents have any idea that a petition with USCIS has been filed. Since we applied I've travelled to the US twice under the VWP each time for a period of 3 weeks and I've not had any problems at all. They have asked me how long I'm staying, who I'm visiting, I reply my fiancée, they ask is she a US citizen I say yes, the first time the guy told me it might be too late but to watch out for American women because they are expensive and the second trip the guy gave me a quizzical look and then sent me on my way. Each time I've taken the NOA1 to show, if I'm asked, that we are going about things the legal way but have never needed to show it.

Now obviously you are talking about staying for a little less than 90 days so they might be a little more curious about you as such a long trip doesn't fit with someone that has strong ties to home so maybe they will have a few more questions for you. But really I think unless you get really exceptionally unlucky you will be just fine, I'd always hoped that, due to the fact you have proof of petitioning for the visa, you'd be able to reason with the CBP agent that overstaying and getting married on this particular trip would be more of a hindrance than a help.

So in summary, nothing is guaranteed but in my experience I've never had a problem. Good luck.

  8. Sorry--I meant the "Filed for" thing above your timeline link. I always glance at that to kinda quickly know who I'm answering because answers sometime depend on visa. You had good clues to go off of, so no big deal(I-134, future FIL) Cheers!

Ah right, I've updated it now. I think I overlooked it before because the question on the profile is a little miss-leading ... to me selecting "K1 Visa" for "Immigration Status" implies that I already have it rather than it's what I've applied for. Anyway appears correctly on my profile so all is good.

  9. Thanks for the reply Nich-Nick ... I hoped they would be ok still but it's always reassuring to have a second opinion.

As for the timeline I've made one and have been updating it ... the link from my post to it works for me but if it doesn't for you then let me know. Either way it's for a K1 visa, as of yesterday we were told the case had left for the embassy in London.

    Thanks again,

    Tom

  10. Hi all,

So having returned from the States bringing with me the financial documents required for the interview I find myself with two unpleasant surprises on unpacking. The first, something leaked in my bag causing slight water damage to top corner of the financial documents ... after a night drying they are all still legible, most are just a little crinkly and a few have a small amount of red ink that ran off the padded envelope they were contained in ... any thoughts on whether this will be a problem? As I said to me (and my dad who I had check) they all look legible and like they have all had water spilled on the top corner so I'm hoping this isn't cause to replace them all.

The second thing I noticed on laying out all the documents to be dried is that my co-sponsor (future FIL) had provided tax account transcripts rather than tax return transcripts ... comparing these to the tax return transcripts from my fiancée the difference seems to be the quantity of information they contain, the account transcript really is an overview whereas the return transcript breaks everything down. Will this be a problem or will the tax account transcript suffice?

    Thanks

    Tom

  11. Faster delivery with airsure is not guaranteed. I have found that, on average, it is faster than standard airmail though, although the main advantage for me is peace of mind since I can track my item.

Not sure what that tracking message is about, I don't remember it saying that when I've used it before, but then again it's been a couple of months since I did so my memory is a bit fuzzy. Maybe it has arrived in the states but hasn't passed through customs yet? That's my best guess. Once it starts moving USPS provides pretty frequent updates about where it is.

  12. If you sent it using airsure then you can use the tracking number provided by the royal mail to track the package on the USPS website once it has reached the US. Hope that helps. I've found the delivery times to vary massively, some packages arrive in a little over a week and others take well over a month.

  13. Can't speak from experience as we've not reached this stage yet but in the wiki it says

I-134 London likes Q.11 to state 'intend to support'. Suggested phrasing is: "whatever sums necessary to ensure the beneficiary does not become a public burden."

  14. Hi all,

So planning a head a bit here but my future father-in-law has been asking me what evidence he will be required to submit in order to co-sponsor our K1 visa application. So in order to answer his question to the best of my ability I've had a poke around the forums here I came across Nich-Nick's post from a couple of years ago, http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/177012-people-between-noa2-and-interview-2009/page__st__315__p__2720065#entry2720065 , which has been very helpful so far (good job Nich-Nick).

So, from this post we have come up with the following list of items

    • Original Signed copy of the I-134 form (from both sponsor and cosponsor)
    • Scanned copies W2s from 2008, 2009, 2010 for me to print
    • Scanned copies of around 3 recent pay stubs for me to print
    • Scanned copies of passport to prove U.S citizenship

So my questions are as follows:

    • Are W2s on there own, i.e. without the remaining forms associated with a tax return, sufficient as a source of evidence (ability to support will be based entirely on salaried income and not on assets or other means)?
    • Does this list seem sufficient in terms of quantity and quality of evidence?
    • Are scanned copies of the W2s and pay stubs enough or will I also require the originals for the purpose of the interview?

Thanks in advance for any help.
