My boyfriend and I were talking today and we are trying to decide what would be the easiest, fastest & cheapest way to do this.

We have been talking online for close to a year now and have yet to meet. I will be going to DR next month to finally see him face to face.

My question though is about bringing him here.  Should we just apply for a tourist visa for 6 months stay in the USA?

Or should we apply for the K-1 as we do plan on getting married. We feel comfortable to do it anytime now.

I know you have to get married within that 90 day stay but seeing other posts it looks like it could get denied and could take awhile

Whereas I havent really seen anything on denial of a Tourist Visa.  Just so he could come here for a bit too.

So again, my question is, to get him here would it be easier, faster & cheaper to go with the Tourist Visa or just go with the K-1 and see what happens.

If I were in your shoes, I would wait for the K1 to get approve. If you decide to do the tourist visa it has to be done first and approved before putting a K1 visa. Doing this will lengthen your overall process and will cost more in the end. Also, there is no guarantee that he will get the tourist visa plus DR consulate has been a pain lately.  My wife had a couple of friends trying to get a tourist visa, and both were denied. One of them hire an immigration specialist and with that person he was able to get the tourist visa, plus he had to pay for the service. I mean, the process may differ from your situation, but it depends on your partner circumstances in DR, for example, if he does not have a well establish job, assets, and other things that tie him/her to DR; immigration may pull a red flag before giving the tourist visa as they may believe that he is pursuing the visa for overstaying.

  2. The interview notice will tell you what document you need to bring. This form tends to be confusing, because it states all possible require document for the interview, but if you read carefully each item have a CODE represented by a letter. Each letter have a meaning as well as explaining what you need to bring. One thing for sure you are require to bring the passport to the interview and a receipt of a filing fee that you can get by making the payment at the Banco Popular.

From personal experience.... As a rule of thumbs for USCIS and NVC.... When you originally submitted your Petition if you sent the original document you are not require to bring it to the interview. I only brought to the interview anything I did not sent with the original document such as, police record, and passport.

  3. For family sponsor ( more than one person requesting on the same underlaying visa petition ) and for a Co sign you will need the I-864 not I-864EZ. Your ex-wife wouldnt be asked in this form. Use I-864.

  4. My USCIS application got approve on 18MAY2011 and I never received anything over the mail from the NVC only over email and and so far I have been waiting for my IV bill comes active online to pay the visa application. They normally will take 15 business day to received and process your paper work at the NVC from USCIS although mine took like 7. So far I have paid my AOS fee and sent it back as well the agent designation letter to NVC. I have pay the bill plus download all the forms online instead of waiting for them through the mail. The only thing I did over the mail was hard copy of the papers, because my spouse country is not eligible for email submital. First off if you have a email on file I would check it first plus check your spam.
