  1. I had a friend in the same situation--his English isn't so great, so I helped him on a conference call with USCIS and they verbally asked what he wanted returned--just saying everything wasn't sufficient--so we named each document, and everything was returned in about a week.

A bit of relief if it will work out this way. Thanks.

I would call the embassy. There is a chance they just forgot to hand it back to you and it is sitting on someone's desk (happened with my daughter's Irish birth cert after CRBA appointment).

Thanks for that, I can only send an email and hope that I'll get a response.

  2. You are supposed to ask for the originals back at the interview.

POE will not return any documents to you.

You will now have to fill out G-884 to get back your documents.

Oh my God! Thought that link applies to documents submitted to USCIS not NVC/Embassy?

  3. I wasnt approved on the spot because my case went through adminstrative review. I got called back after a few weeks and was approved and signed DS230 and told I'll receive my visa in days. I didnt ask for my original documents assuming everything will be returned in the big envelope submitted. I got the package. It had my passport with the visa in it and the 'mysterious brown envelope' and that was it!

Could the original documents be in the envelope? Will it be returned at POE? I am freaking out because at least one of the doucments will be a NIGHTMARE TO REPLACE if not impossible! Maybe I need to go back to the embassy to have the envelope opened, orig docs replaced with copies and resealed?

Ireland folks, please advise, what is the norm? :help:

  4. Hi VJers. First of all thanks to everyone that takes the time to contribute and help people in this forum. I have been a looooong time lurker. The advice I have gotten here has helped me this far so I thought I should ask all the good people here about this before I kill myself with worry!

I had my CR1 interview in Dublin on Tuesday. Everything seemed to go well. I did not get a definite answer about the outcome. The CO just said you should be getting your documents in the post in the next week or two and I asked if the interview was over and he said yes. I was too tongue-tied to ask more questions. He did not tell me whether I was approved or not. I left the embassy before remembering that he did not ask me to sign Part 2 of the DS230 (the SSN application bit) and that has set alarm bells off in my head. Does this mean the application is denied?

Please advice, I am going bonkers with worry! :help:
