  1. I'm trying to get information on how to approach this. My biological father's name is not on my certificate up to this day. I'm a US Citizen whose already successfully filed for my mom and step dad. Is it possible to petition my dad at this point? If so what substancial supporting documents would I need to prove emotional or financial relationship between me and dad? Also will I need to get his name on amended to my birth certificate this point or it's pointless?

  2. I saw that US Citizen can apply for stepparent. I will apply to bring my dad after citizenship is completed so can I apply to bring my Stepmother as well? does it take the same amount of time?

Yes you can file for your stepmom. The process is equally the same. however you must ensure that your parents have been married before you turned 16.(I think it's between your 16th or 18th birthday).

  3. I don't know how long it takes to get the card per say, but I am sure on your passport you have an official visa stamp that serves as evidence of temporary residency while you wait for the green card. With that you could go to the DMV office an obtain a DL. You may also need to provide proove of SSN to get your DL which you can apply for one once you enter the US. Once you apply for a SSN it takes about two weeks more or less to get the card on the mail. By the way, if you have an active DL that has not yet expired from your country and your passport with you, you could drive in some states. See reciprocity for your state and see if you are allowed to drive with that or if you need an international drivers license if you desperately need to drive while you wait to obtain the one for your state.

    Best,

Hi can that same stamp be used to get employment? Does it have the permanent resident number that will be shown on the card?

  4. I've heard everyone's opinion. My opinion is, well from what I've read regarding US laws. Once you can prove abandonment by both birth parents, then the child is indeed an orphan. Which in my case, my niece absolutely is. Both her parents were absent since she was 3months.

Also she lived with me since she was 3months old when I lived in Jamaica. Making it a total of 4years. I left Jamaica and my father who lives in a different parish is now raising her. He is not her legal guardian, but he is raising her. So she is still in fact an orphan, because her birth parents don't provide for her financially, emotionally and never visit her. So she is just basically living with my dad until I complete the adoption process.

Thanks everyone and have a great day!
