finally a USC! did my oath at Ontario Convention Center with around 1200 other participants yesterday. Thank you vjers for all the help. This forum helped me save a lot in processing my papers from beginning until the end. Good luck to the others still waiting.

Will now start scheduling for passport application for husband, myself and my son. Husband's passport expired in July.

Your name change does not take effect until you take your oath at the naturalization ceremony.
Until that time, your legal name is the name you had at the time of your interview. So your current legal name is the name on your birth certificate.
USCIS addresses all letters in your current name, not the name you will get when you become a citizen.
At your oath, you should get your naturalization certificate in the new name that you requested as well as a name change certificate showing the approved name change request.

just an update, I already received my oath letter today and it's scheduled on Nov. 14 at 7:30am. It will be in a court I believe in Ontario,CA!

Hi all! I received my oath ceremony letter today however I'm confused if the IO made a mistake on my name change. My name in my birth cert is just one first name. However, in my baptismal cert, I have two first names. Throughout the years I have been using 2 first names. When i applied for all my paperworks here, I used my 2 first names. During my naturalization interview, IO clarified it and told me that we will just go with my single first name in my application then apply for name change to make it officially 2 first names.

my question is: in my oath letter, it is addressed to my single name (birth certificate name). for those who had name changes, did you have your original names in your letter or the changed name already?

Just needed clarifications. Hoping to hear from anyone especially those who had name changes.

Hi all! Done with my interview today! My appointment was at 8:35am in San Bernardino, CA office. There were about 15 people waiting already. Got there around 8:15 and was called in around 8:45. IO asked for my passports, DL and green card then swore me in. First thing he discussed was my name coz in my birth certificate, I only had one first name but throughout the years I have been using 2 first names due to my baptismal cert. He just told me that he's recommending a name change since he's gonna be using the birth certificate name. He will just officially put in a name change for me to the 2 first names I'm using. I told him that's ok since I don't wanna go through the process of having to change all of my ID's and cards. Then he asked for our original birth cert, divorce papers from previous marriage, marriage cert and other financial docs. He went through the form in detail. He took note of my new job too. After which, made me sign those papers. Then gave me the civics test.

Questions were:

1. What is one promise you make when you become a USC?

2. What movement tried to end racial discrimination?

3. What did Martin Luther King Jr. do?

4. Who is the governor of your state?

5. Where is the statue of Liberty?

6. Name 2 national US holidays?

7. Who was the first president?

For some reason, he put my answer for #2 wrong (civil rights movement). I just realized later on that he gave me 7 questions. He then made me read "Who lives in the White House?" and made me write "The President lives in the White House." He then stamped the paper in front of him and the front part of the application "Approved". Filled out the paper that says I passed the tests and Congratulations! Then told me to wait for the mail for the oath taking schedule.

My interview was a very detailed one like the green card interview but I didn't even notice that I was there for an hour already coz the IO is also from the Philippines and I saw in his office that we graduated from the same University! So we had a little chitchat here and there.

He walked me to the exit afterwards and wished me good luck in my career and continue to be proud of our school!

Overall my experience was a pleasant one though it was an hour long. Now hoping to get the oath taking mail soon!

finally got my interview letter scheduled 10/20/2014! woohoo!!! quick question though, it says "REQUEST FOR APPLICANT TO APPEAR FOR NATURALIZATION INITIAL INTERVIEW". Initial? Is it something that I should be concerned about? Also, does my USC husband need to go with me? My son has school that day and it takes an hour to get to the location from our place. I plan to leave 2 hours ahead so my husband needs to take my son to school.

The process has been slow but I believe in the saying "Good things come to those who wait!"

Hi! I'm in almost the same position as yours with regards to my son's status. In his case though, his green card doesn't expire til end of August. I am still waiting for my interview as of this moment (April filer). I have been hoping to get my US citizenship before his card expires just to save us some money from the removal of conditions.

Can I ask for a big favor? Would appreciate it if you could please let me know if you're able to get your son his passport with the expired green card? I would really love to save some money! As you have said, it would be a huge waste for us to still pay for removal.

Hello, I don't think you should worry, our field office just like many other field offices had an increase of submitted applications since March, the San Bernardino office takes about 5.1 months for the whole process and oath ceremonies are in Los Angeles, in April the average increased by one month 6.1 months. For me everything is just about a month apart, I don't have the actual (paper) interview letter with the actual interview date, but I'm estimating first or second week of July. Sent Application in March, Biometrics in April, In-line end of April (Almost May), yellow letter (bring ID) in June and also scheduled for interview in June. Don't know date yet, but guessing July.

Well after 45 days of being In-line for interview, I received a text/email stating that I'm scheduled for interview. Just waiting on letter with actual date. Things kinda slowed down for while, but seem to be picking up again... Good luck...

hi! I saw that you are also from the San Bernardino field office. I haven't heard from them too up to now. I had my early bio last May 15. my 3rd year anniversary is not until July 17. how about you? I'm just curious to know how fast or slow our field office is. Should I be expecting to be in-line after june 17 since that's a month before my green card 3rd anniversary?

thanks Maritoni! aren't the tax transcripts enough proof for the employment and unemployment? I guess for the schooling part, I will just bring my Certificate. anyway, I will not stress myself on this. I guess it is understandable that on the dates not covered by my schooling and employment, I was unemployed!

I have a question regarding the employment part of the N-400. I was not able to see (read) the part where it says to list even the unemployment.

I was only able to write down the employed dates and school dates. Is this a cause for concern?

got a text and email yesterday that USPS picked up mail from USCIS in Aug.1. based on tracking nbr, my card should be here tom Aug. 3rd. I am so happy with how fast this process has been. As everyone has been saying here, I was not expecting any response this soon too.

Well, I filed in April 3rd (or so) and I interviewed July 13th. I have NOT taken the Oath yet and probably won't be able to until November given the wait at my local location. Some people in my filing group have naturalised already. So you're looking at 3 months at the least, but it could be more.

I would save for the I-751 but if you haven't taken your Oath and he has about 2 weeks left until he needs to file then I'd go ahead and file it.

How old is ur son? if u get naturalized before his green card expire then that would be great. Your son will qualify for the Child Citizenship Act if he meets the requirements. My two minor kids who came here through IR2 got their 10 yr green card but they are now citizens since i was naturalized last year. But you have to have proof of US ctizenship for ur son coz its not automatic.

I got my kids their US passport as proof of their ctznship.

My son is now 13. He is now holding the 2 yr conditional card only. Based on what you said, so i dont have to file for separate naturalization for him? All I need to do is get him a US passport when I apply for mine? He will not encounter any problem in the future if his only proof is his US passport?

The timing looks a little tight, basically you would have to naturalize in 4 months. Possible, yes, some offices are faster, but some others require several months to complete the process. I'd follow V&T's advice: file your N-400 as soon as you possibly can, and then wait and see a couple of weeks prior to the deadline for filing your kid's I-751.

I know right? It is very tight! I guess I just have to prepare for his ROC too in case it takes them long for my naturalization.

Hi all. I know Im asking way ahead but I'd like to be able to prepare for it especially since it costs a lot of money. My question is this:

I am filing for naturalization around the 3rd week of April next year (2014). My son, whom my USC husband petitioned a year after me, got his conditional green card in August 28,2012. Basically, I should be filing for his removal of conditions around May 2014. I understand that once I become USC, my son automatically becomes USC too. What would be the best thing for me to do? Should I file for his ROC and pay around $600 by May? or should I wait for my naturalization? If I wait, do I have to file for naturalization for him too? How long is the naturalizatiojn process usually? Hope someone can give me enlightenment on this matter. As early as now, I want to be able to know what to do and of course save up for it as well.

Oh my gosh! I cant believe this! First thing that woke me up this morning was an email and text from USCIS that they have ordered my card production on July 29 which was yesterday! This is gonna be a great day! I am so happy!!!

hi everyone. been busy lately that's why im just able to update now. I did my early bio last 05/24 since its an hour drive away from us and we were going to the area that time so i thought of trying. it just took me about 15 mins in there. the guard said good thing we're not busy or i wouldn't be able to accommodate you. well, i sure was lucky! so i guess it's all waiting now. just hoping for no RFE and faster processing. good luck to all of us!
