  1. WOOHOO we were approved, you can read my review on my timeline page.

I saw her put the approved stamp on my papers and she also gave as an approval letter and said the GC should arrive within 2-4 weeks.

Two hours later I've also received an email that today they mailed me a notice that they have approved my I-485.

I asked her if I can get the I-551 stamp because I have an important wedding back home on April 1st but she said I can't because they only do that for serious emergencies... She said my EAD+AP card is no longer valid and that I can't leave the country until I receive the GC. That was a little disappointing but I was wondering if you guys can share how long did it take for you to receive the GC in the mail after the interview? Do you think I will get it in 2 weeks?

  2. Thanks,

I know but I never thought i'm going to have the GC interview so soon, I was only hoping to get the AP on time, and I haven't purchased the tickets because I want to be sure I can go.

I am not making those plans, no one asked me when to schedule the family wedding I want to go to... I would prefer to stay here and be relaxed and not care about when I get my GC but I don't want to disappoint my family.

So anyways, if I get approved I should ask them for the stamp, and if they won't do it, I should wait a few days until I get the formal approval letter and then go back there right? (at least I'm lucky the Phoenix office is very available for infopass and you can get one in a few days.

And if I don't get approved on the spot (I hope it doesn't happen!) then at least my EAD and AP will still be valid right?

  3. OK, so basically they are going to cancel it at the interview?

So what happens at the time I'm waiting for my GC after the interview? I can't work or travel?

If I get approved on the spot at the interview will they agree to put the stamp in my passport right away?

What happens if I don't get a definite answer at the interview? I'm stuck until they officially approve me?

Not that my case should have a problem, we are happily married and all of our evidence documents for the interview are ready, but who knows what could happen there..... Maybe they will ask for more evidence?

  4. Hi Guys,

I've applied for AOS along with AP and EAD and USCIS received it on Dec 22, 2011.

I had some problems with receiving mail from them since we can't get mail to our house, and they disregarded the "C/O" box where I put our PO box and the notes I've attached requesting them to send all mail to our PO Box.

Anyways, I've fixed that with them and since then have received all mail, done the biometrics and received a date for the GC interview (which is next week!), and last Friday and today again, I've received notices that my EAD is on its way.

My problem is that since the first NOA1s were returned to USCIS, my AP case status on the website still states to this day the notice about the returned letter. Now I've received letters from them confirming the address change and I've also spoke to a tier 2 person who assured me that the address is changed, but I'm wondering why nothing has changed on my AP case?

Do usually nothing happen on the AP case because you get the combo card for both the EAD and AP?

Or should I be worried that there is a problem with my AP?

I have an important event back home on April 1st and I'm not sure if I will get my GC by then, so I really need the AP to be able to go.

Is this a normal situation or should I start freaking out and schedule an infopass to try to expedite my AP? (It's been 2.5 months, past VJ timeline for AP).

    Thanks all!

  5. A similar thing happened to me, they actually do change your address and you will receive a letter confirming it.

But the people on the customer service should be able to pull it up for you so if one representative is not helpful just hang up and call again and again until someone is willing to help. That's how they are! Also a tier 2 person can confirm that for you as well so you could try to ask to talk to one and insist on it saying that you have to confirm it or else it's gonna mess up your life or something (I'm not kidding)and they will transfer you and the immigration officer can for sure verify the address change for you.

  6. Just to let you know I have a similar problem and felt the same way as you and listened to the advice to put our (and not even someone else's) Po box in the c/o box and they still sent it to our house and it was a huge mess to fix it!!!! In the end I had to change our address with them to the po box and they didn't even care to know where we live only where they can send mail to us.

I will recommend to put only the po box and make sure your mother in law adds your name and your husband's to the list of people receiving mail to that po box (at her post office- she needs to file a little form) asap so your mail would be delivered there. It's the worst thing if they mess up and you can't get their letters. Believe me it was a pain in the rears and it delayed everything for me! and it's so hard to communicate with them afterwards the people on the customer service are not helpful at all and do not understand what you want from them.

you can attach a note that you live in this address but can only get mail to the po box, but on the actual forms just put the po box because they do not bother to care about the details.

  7. I don't want to be a party pooper and I really hope it means you were approved but it's weird that you didn't get first a notice that you have been approved and then the notice about card production. The reason I am saying it, is because I had a problem with receiving mail at the beginning of the AOS process and when they fixed it and re-sent me all the documents like NOA1 and biometrics appointment the status on the website for my case also said that exact massage of card being sent to me but obviously it was a mistake and they changed it back to a different status after a while.

Just call the customer service number to be sure so you wont get disappointed, But I really do hope it really means your card is on its way and congrats!

  8. Contact your congressman now! don't wait. Melissa and I had our interviews on the same day and her fiance got his visa 2 weeks before me, if I'm not mistaken they called the courier company Sha'al in Jerusalem and I think they just got the visa that day so she catched them before they contacted her. We were never given a website we can track our visa at look like there are some advancements there in the past few months.

Nothing bad happens to you if you talk to your congressman, it is every US citizen right to turn to their congressman for help and the help with immigration problems is listed on congressmans' websites as one of their services. They can only speed things up because they can email the general consul or some other high officer in the consulate directly and the consulate do not want to look like they are screwing up so they are pretty responsive to the congressmans inquiries.

Look up who is your region (or your fiance, not sure who is the us citizen here) congressman and contact them asap.

  9. I waited for 6.5 weeks, It's so annoying but that consulate is just horrible and very slow.

You need to call your american congressman they can speed up things it shouldn't take more than a month.

I know what you are going through and I can just tell you not to expect anything and be surprised when it finally happens.

I had to contact the congressman twice but it definitely helped as the visa was issued one day after the second time we talked to him and that is also the response the congressman's office gave us- that the visa will be issued any day now.

Good luck! There is nothing wrong with your visa it's the consulate.

  10. Just out of curiosity, how does one actually get to talk to a tier 2 person? like do you say "I want to talk to a tier 2 person"??? :)

and about your case, glad its working out!!

With me at the beginning they didn't want to transfer me and also you need to call a few times until you get someone nice, I have to admit that both times they transferred me to an officer I either had to cry or get really frustrated and upset with them.

I just said- I know you can transfer me to an actual officer who can see the details of the case and I would like to speak with them since you are saying you do not have access to the details and this is costing me my schooling/ my job/ my health etc....

You need to insist or hang up and try again.

  11. Try calling the costumer service again and again until you find a representative that would listen to you, I can't deny that crying a little helps with that too.

It took me three tries but on that third one they did put me through to a supervisor who had a little more information. He wasn't that helpful but much more than the other ones and I could tell he could see my actual case in front of him.

  12. From a very recent similar experience I would say the best thing is to wait till you move and put in the new address.

If you are in a rush to get all the documents than you technically can change your address later and let me tell they do not care where you live at all they care about where they could send you letters that you will for sure receive.

I had to change my address not because I moved but because the post office wont deliver mail to our house and I did put our PO Box info on the cover letter and the "in care of" box but they didn't even look at it and sent it to our house which obviously got returned to them. When I called them to change the address they did not care at all that I didn't move and that the original address is still my residence address, they only cared about where they could send mail to me. I also had to complete the AR11 online form which was very easy to do.

So I must say I was surprised by how fast they updated the "new" address, they sent me a letter to the new address confirming that they have changed it within 4 days after my call to them. BUT I have not received the NOA1 that got returned to them yet....

So it's kind of a dangerous situation with them. They get confused a little. So it is possible to do so but I would definitely recommend you to either wait or just put your parents address or the new one if you could collect your mail from there before you actually move in.

  13. OK update, I went to talk to the supervisor at school today and she exceptionally gave me another extension to come up with the I-797 until February 1st, and she updated my status to in-state but she said that if I can't show her the letter be that date I would have to pay the out-of state tuition.

So please someone tell me how can I talk to a supervisor at USCIS and verify that they updates my mailing address and that they are sending it to me asap so I can receive it before Feb 1st? I've already tried info pass and they couldn't help me at all so please how can I speak to someone at the costumer service that know what they're doing?

Also after my I-485 and I-765 were under the weird "card production" status for 2 days now USCIS finally received back these two letter as undelivarable (like I knew they would) and the status has changed back to initial review and that I need to update my address even though I already did it when I first saw that my I-131 got returned to them.

  14. Vanessa, yes I did put the PO box on the care of section and on the cover letter and on post it notes on every form asking to send all mail to my mailing address which is the PO box.

That's why I'm so upset, they should put a line in their forms for both residence address and mailing address!!!

I did go to the local USCIS office yesterday with an info pass and they didn't help at all, their files weren't even updated with the undeliverable problem at all! And I even got to the point of crying in front of them and they still wouldn't give me a copy of the NOA1 or any other letter confirming that I am legal here. What if a cop pulls me over and I don't have anything proving that I am legal???

Last week when I talked to the supervisor at school I told her I've got the email confirming that I have applied for GC but she said she needs the formal letter. And she said she'll give me until January 12 to come up with it. Tomorrow I will go there again and see if i can get some sort of agreement with them like you said- to start paying like out of state until I get the letter and then if they would refund me the difference that's fine with me. But I don't know if they'll agree to do that.

I am almost 25 and I already started school in Israel and completed 1 year there, and had to put off one semester due to the move here, now half of my credits don't count here so I have at least 2.5 years to go until I get my degree that's with full schedule of course. So I really really don't want to push this off more especially since I did everything the right and legal way and it's just not fair how things fall over one peace of paper!

If anyone has any idea how I can talk to someone who knows something or what does it mean that all of a sudden the website says their already producing my GC and EAD only 20 days after filling????

  15. First of all I couldn't find it and there is no need to be mean to a person that's in a big stress right now.

Second, what is an ISO anyways?

Third, I think I have already dealt with the re-mailing problem but the problem is it's going to take so long until I get those letters and I need them now.

Fourth, can someone please address the weirdness that's going in with my case status now?

  16. Well after talking twice to USCIS costumer service and going to my local office to talk to them, here are the results:

    1. I should have put on all of the forms my PO Box and not the residence address. The advice to put on the residence address I got here on VJ was wrong. they do not care about it. they care about where they can send mail to you.

    2. They can not or will not fax over or even personally give me a copy of the I-797.(NOA1)

    3. I have filed a service request with the costumer service to change my address and re-send those notices to the new address. That should take about 30 days! great that really helps...

    4. At the local office it wasn't even updated that my letters were sent back as undeliverable and they couldn't do anything for me but advice to request an expedite.

    5. I have called again and asked for an expedite on basis of financial loss (it will cost me $4000 more in tuition if I do not get the letter until January 12th) just for the receipt notice. I hope the very intelligent representative understood me.... that should take at least 5 days anyways.

    6. I have filed an AR-11 form online to officially change my address on their files.

Now the weirdest thing is I just checked my case status again and all of a sudden it says on both my I-485 and I-765 applications-

"Card/ document production" and that I should receive the card in 30 days!

What the heck is going on here? can someone explain this???

p.s it seems like talking to the costumer service is a waste of time. They don't know anything and also do not seem like the sharpest pencils in the box. So who can I talk to that could actually give me some reliable information??
