It is true that an affidavit is not required but if you do use one it DOES need to be notarized. The definition of affidavit from wikipedia:

An affidavit (/ˌæfɨˈdeɪvɨt/ a-fə-day-vət) is a written sworn statement of fact voluntarily made by an affiant or deponent under an oath or affirmation administered by a person authorized to do so by law. Such statement is witnessed as to the authenticity of the affiant's signature by a taker of oaths, such as a notary public or commissioner of oaths.

You're welcome! Both you and your joint sponsor can download the form from the USCIS site and get started filling it out now. The instructions for the I-864 will tell you all about the necessary tax forms required for self employment. Also, your joint sponsor will need to provide a copy of their birth certificate, passport or naturalization if they are a US citizen or their permanent resident card if not. The very last page of the instructions has a checklist of everything you and your joint sponsor will need.

Congrats!! I'm so happy for you!! I think that waiting for the NOA 2 is the worst part of this whole process. Definitely use the guides and threads that blueberry pancake listed and keep calling the NVC until you get your case number. I think I called about 3 times a week. It took a month which was really frustrating because just before that they were only taking 1-2 weeks. It looks like it is still taking a month now. Still keeping you in my prayers.

I scanned everything, emailed it to my husband and he printed it all out there in Tunisia. Getting any mail there has become horrible. Nothing we have sent to his mother in Tunisia has ever been received by her in the past 2 years. If there is something you absolutely have to send by mail it is definitely best to send it Fedex or DHL even though it costs a fortune.

My husband's biometrics were done today. It was a stressful morning. The ASC is a 2 hour drive from us and even though we gave ourselves a 2 hour cushion, it was quickly eaten up by car troubles. He was an hour late for his appt. but fortunately they were still able to take him.

I know it's overwhelming but just try to take a step back and a deep breath and stop worrying. I had abt 18 months worth of chats. I was driving myself crazy too trying to decide what to do. I finally chose to just print 2 random pages from each month and call it good. I can't say this is always the case but when my husband gave them to the interviewing officer he just fanned through the pages quickly without even really looking at them. Just print out enough to show that you were chatting regularly throughout those years and you should be good.

NOA received yesterday... Adding date.

If you check the USCIS website under the forms tab you'll find the current edition of all forms. The latest version of the I-864 is 03/22/13. Was your original I-864 sent before that? If so, the assistant probably used the same form to make the correction but it's now outdated.

My husband and I were told that it needed to be written by hand so that's what we did.

I'm thinking your 90 day window will begin after Oct 20th. I think it's actually Oct 23rd.

We also received a reminder before our 90 days. It's just reminding you that the time is coming not that you need to send it now. Stick to your plan. If you send it now it will be too early.

Hello All! I'm joining you as a September Filer. I sent my packet on September 19th. My priority 2 day mail took 5 days to get there and was delivered today. Gotta love the USPS!

When my husband first arrived here there weren't any employers who would consider him until he had the green card and a social security card. It was also very hard for him to find a job until he had a driver license. Most every job required a driver license even if the job did not involve driving. Be sure to register at your local employment agency and check their online listings every day. Their website should have tools to help you build a resume. Also check the help wanted ads in the newspaper daily. There are usually many jobs listed there that will not be listed at the employment agency. Good luck in your job search!!

I had also been unemployed for a few years and had no tax returns when sponsoring my husband. I just included a letter stating that I had been unemployed and was not required to file taxes during those years. I didn't have any problems with that.
