  1. I went in 2009. Took Bangkok airways for a fairly cheap price.

I never took the overland rout, but the paved roads in Siam Reap were some of the roughest and pothole infested I've ever seen.

One word of advice, keep a good amount of smaller bills handy. I had a hell of a time trying to break a hundred over there. Also I think the airport tax was $25 to enter and another $25 to leave.

Have fun it's a great place to go!

  2. We had a similar situation.

A friend of hers started the Visa process a month after her and received the visa a few weeks ago. However this was a visa to Germany. Her friend also used a lawyer. (We are not)

Naturally this brought out all of the "expert" advice and gossip yap yap. :secret:

The bottom line is things are moving along at a modest pace and optimistically on schedule with our plans. Of course this still difficult to wait. It seems like the wait from NOA2 to interview is the hardest.Especially after sending in packet 3 and waiting over 2 months.

We just try to stay positive and not pay too much attention the naysayers.

    Best of luck!

  3. Seeing how the POE choice is ours and having access to all the popular POE, I spent a few days reading all the POE reviews on this wonderful web site.

To make a long story short, we decided on using SFO as our POE. Or plan to once we have the visa in hand.

I hope to be able to add a positive review to the SFO POE

  4. 93 days for us.

I was prepared for a 5 month wait.

Then I got lulled into thinking the worst wait was over.

As NOA2 to interview is a longer and a more painful wait.

all I can say is I'm glad that we stayed ahead of things on the paper work and requirements. It seems like every day one delays or falls behind could end up costing you weeks down the road.

Visa Journey is truly the best resource one could hope for. I thank my lucky stars that I found this page before starting my paper work!

  5. I ran into the same issue.

It seems like packet 3 and 4 are very similar, only packet 4 asks for the medical documents.

We sent in everything they asked for in packet 3, except for the original passport and birth certificate. (to be brought to the interview)

We will include copies of packet 3, with all of our pack 4 documents.

Only time will tell if this is the correct way to do this.

  6. thank you all for your help.

we received an email back from them. It confirmed that they did receive packet 3 and that the interview appointment can be scheduled for you in about 8-10 weeks.

So would that be an interview date in 8-10 weeks or packet 4 in 8-10 weeks with the interview...? :wow:

"The Immigrant Visa Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok received the returned Packet 3 materials from you through the mail on July 11, 2011. Your case is now awaiting for an interview appointment. Due to the large volume of applicants, the interview appointment can be scheduled for you in about 8-10 weeks after the IV Unit received the returned Packet 3 material through the mail. We will be in touch with you by sending the Packet 4 interview appointment letter to you by mail and email after the interview appointment has been scheduled for you."

  7. They usually update the interview appointment in the website once a month at the end of the month.

But you'll know it by e-mail before they put information in the web. Example my case, interview will be on 12 Sep but i've been informed since 15 July. I won't see my interview in the web until end of August.

Congratulations on receiving your packet 4 and interview date!

Looking at your time line,I see that it a little over 20 days from when you sent packet 3 and received packet 4.

This is very reassuring. As we sent in our packet 3 on July 7th.

We are hoping to have September interview as well. As the NOA 2 will expire before the end of September.

  8. Thank you for your help.

I sent an inquiry email to the embassy.Within seconds i received an auto reply with some very useful instructions.

I would like to share the auto reply so others may benefit from it.

    :ot:

Thank you for your inquiry to the Visa Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok. Please read the following carefully:

Due to the large number of emails received daily, we are only able to respond to case-specific questions. If you need general

visa information about U.S. visa services available in Thailand, please consult the following websites:

    http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/visas.html

    http://thailand.us-visaservices.com/Forms/default.aspx

    1) If you have a case-specific Immigrant Visa (including fiancé/e) inquiry, you must resend your email to

visasbkk@state.gov and the subject line must contain "IV Inquiry," the case number (with prefix of BNK), and the applicant's

surname. Your email must also contain the full name of the petitioner, the applicant, the type of visa, and your question.

    2) For a case-specific Non-Immigrant Visa inquiry you must resend your email to visasbkk@state.gov and the subject line

must contain "NIV Inquiry." Your email must contain the full name of the visa applicant and your question.

    3) To request an expedited Non-Immigrant Visa appointment, generally available only for business travel, emergencies,

and educational/exchange travel (visa categories F, J, M), please send an email to visasbkk@state.gov with the subject line:

In your email request for an expedited appointment, please include your appointment confirmation number, full name, tentative

travel date, and the reason you require an earlier appointment. If no appointment slots are currently available in your

appointment category, you must provide your PIN. The Visa Unit will contact you should you qualify and space be available.

Again, thank you for your inquiry.

  9. Thank you to everyone that helped.

She was able to get it done at one of the larger Post offices in her area.

    One thing to note.

The packet #3 instructions list the fee as $131.00 US.

However the Embassy web page has an update stating that the new fee is $350.00 US

This caused a bit of panic and confusion for about 10 minutes.

I hope this info saves some of you a head ache.

  10. Hello,

We just got packet 3 yesterday.

I have quick question on how to pay the application fee.

Instructions say that the fee can be paid at any Thai Post office, and to mail the receipt.

What is the best way to do this?

Is it as simple as going to the post and telling them that you want to pay the non-immigrant visa fee?

Or should it be worded a certain way?

anyone have experiences they can share?

    thank you
