Never hurts to have an extra copy. NVC will send the original along with everything else in your package to your consulate, but sometimes things fall thru the cracks, so better to be prepared than to have to run around like crazy at the last minute.

that is true..although the officer I talked to at the police station said they only issue 1 certificate per applicant unless the certificate was expired..

I am just trying to avoid spending 2000 yen to talk to someone at the american embassy.

Any Japan filers out there...

IR-1/CR-1 visa was approved and am currently in the process of getting together necessary documents to send to the NVC (DS-230, police certificate, etc)

My husband is sending in all the documents since he is in the US.

I have already obtained my police certificate, but they only give you one copy, which I am sending to NVC.

What I am confused about is that on the US Embassy's website here in Japan they tell me that I need to bring a copy of police certificate to interview.

Does this only apply for DCF or do all applicants need to bring a copy to the interview?
