  1. Hello,

    Some background:

I will be needing a cosponsor, my brother, since I don't make enough money.

My wife, a Mexican national will be immigrating to the US with my son, a US citizen by birth abroad(my son hasn't been to the US though)

as far as item 9 goes:

"I am sponsoring the following family members immigrating at the same time or within six months of the principal

immigrant named in Part 2 above. Do not include any relative listed on a separate visa petition"

Should my son be listed in my brothers I-864 under item 9?

    Thanks,

  2. I submitted my i-130 in Mexico City the 2nd of June. I sent an email to Ciudad Juarez via the web form and today they tell me that they haven't received anything. Should I be worried? Is this normal? It's been more than 2 weeks, surely they should have received the i-130 by now.

    An update on this:

I received the letter stating that I could schedule an interview at Ciudad Juarez from 22 - 28 of July. I was able to schedule the interview for the 27th.

I'm surprised at how quick this was. From when I submitted the 1-130 to the interview it will have been less than 2 months. :o

  3. Hi MiguelFC,

If the information is in English or Spanish, you don't have to get it translated. We had our marriage certificate translated into English as well as my husband's birth certificate, but they only took the original copies. If you need translating from another language, try this site:http://www.foxtranslate.com/. It's not cheap, but we got our copies really fast.

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the info!

  4. Hello,

I am getting ready to go to the Mexico City embassy to drop off the i-130 for my wife. Just to be clear, the only thing I need to get translated is the marriage certificate, correct? If so, are there any examples of translations or maybe a template I can use to translate the certificate? I went through this thread a couple of times but I could not find an example or template.

    Thanks

  5. I think that your uncle's chances of obtaining a tourist visa are very slim to none based on his age and because he does not have financial ties to the country. I am almost sure that he will get denied a visa because the consul will think that he has nothing to lose if he overstays his tourist visa. I have been in the Mexico City consulate at various times in my life and they are rough, discriminatory, and racist. How about your father (US citizen) visiting your uncle in Mexico instead? I really think this might be the only viable option.

    Best wishes! (F)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah... I figure it is going to be tough getting him a visa :( . We're going to try and see what happens though.

The process recently changed in Mexico for getting a tourist's visa: http://inmigracionyvisas.com/a939_cambio_solicitud_visas_mexico.html I dont know if that will make any difference.

I would be interested to hear from anybody who's been in a similar situation or who has gotten or helped somebody get a tourist's visa by sponsoring their visit.

    Thanks,

  6. Here's my situation:

My 67 year old retired uncle wants to get a tourist visa to visit his brother (my dad) in the US. I am currently working in Mexico. I am a US citizen. My mom, dad, brothers and sisters live in the US. My uncle is my dad's last surviving brother. They just want to hand out for a couple of weeks now that my dad is retired.

A little background on my uncle:

He has no properties, no house, business, etc. He lives with his daughters in their home. He has no job and no bank account. Taking all of this into consideration, however, my uncle has no intention of overstaying his visit.

My question is the following: What would be the best way to approach this process so as to have the best chance of getting my uncle a tourist's visa. I have read conflicting information as to sponsoring his visit. Some say that sponsoring someone doesn't work anymore, that it could actually hurt your chances. I'm a bit confused.

Would he be hurting his chances if he states that he will be visiting his brother in the US and getting a sponsorship letter from my dad or brothers? If a visa is given to him, he will be going with me to the US. Would it be better to just omit the fact that he has a brother in the US and state that he will be taking a vacation with me to the US and we both will be coming back because I have to go back to work in Mexico?

    Thanks in advance
