I've tried looking up the answer to this and I've only gotten a partial answer or something that conflicts with other things I've heard. My wife just got notice that her green card is in the mail (WOO!) and we want to go to the SSA to get the whole "working purposes" deal removed from her SS card. The question is: Will she get a new number? I'm aware she'll get a new card and that she'll have fewer restrictions, but will the number change?
The reason I ask is, before thinking things through thoroughly, I tried to add her to a loan I had and the person in the loan office said her SS# wasn't even one he could find on his little SS# research website thingy. He then said that he had never seen the first few numbers on her card before. It's obviously been fine in every other situation we've used it (she has a job, etc), but if people who are dealing with loans, etc can't use it, then it's kind of useless.
So, again, will she be getting a new number or do we have to somehow magically explain our situation everytime we want to talk to someone about money?
Thanks!

Well, here's a news flash:
According to the SSA people, the INS will now no longer accept a SSN application based on a visa that has a different name from the Visa. The name on the Visa has to match up with the one on the application. I was informed it's some new rule "You know, after 9/11" (what, ten years late?) and that I would just have to wait for the residency card.
I call BS, but I'm done fighting this fight.

She issued the card and I understand what you're saying, but there are a lot of people who want a SSN with her name on it (contrary to what SSA tells you: the bank, the renter's office, and the insurance company) and I'd much rather do all of that stuff once instead of twice.

Thanks! This looks like it'll help. We'll go back tomorrow, as the office closes in half an hour (seriously, what's with those hours?).

Went to the SSA today and everything went smoothly except for one thing:
The lady said we couldn't put my wife's new name on the card, because the card has to match her visa. We have a marriage certificate showing her new name, but the lady wouldn't even look at it. She said something about applying to have the visa changed so that it reads her new name. I don't think she has any idea what a K-1 visa is. We still applied for the card because the number can get a lot of things for us, but can anyone link to an SSA page that says she's wrong? I understand she is, but I can't exactly print off a forum page to prove it. All I can find myself is that she needs a marriage certificate to prove a name change, but it doesn't say anything in reference to a visa.
Thanks for any help, sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

I called them today and the applicant is the Beneficiary.
Also, something that was not listed on the embassy's website but is needed for the call is the applicant's phone number! Have that handy!

Extortion hotline = Phone number you call to pay for visa fee.

My fiancée is the one in England trying to move here to America. I need to call for her to make the payment for the visa. It says on the site that they need the "applicant's info", but I'm not sure if that's her or me, as up to this point, I've been the "petitioner" and she's been the "beneficiary".
Also, if the info I'm giving is hers and she'll eventually need to prove that she paid for the visa with a receipt, but I'm paying with my card, at what point do I explain that it's my card but her name needs to be on the receipt? I don't want to say the card is hers because it's not, but I don't want to mess it up by not having her name on the receipt.
Finally, is this a fairly easy call? Am I blowing this out of proportion? They just give a very specific amount of time that I'm paying for, so I don't want to ask too many questions and then get charged extra for going over.
Really finally, my cat is meowing like crazy. Would anyone like a grey American longhair? At the very least, he makes an amazing blanket.

Hey . . . you guys look cute together, and I've never said such a thing before.
I suppose we do that to people? Thanks!
Is that Planet Hollywood in Orlando? It sure is!

Thanks, you two. It's what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure.

Just received notice that I'll be getting the NOA2 in the mail (yaay!) two days ago and Sian and I are looking ahead trying to make the road as easy as possible coming up. I'm looking over the requirements for the I-134/I-864 (as I've been told to give as much info as the latter needs since I'll be doing that eventually, anyway) and I'm coming up with a problem concerning the poverty line.
Last year, I made less than the $18,387 required for two people and that is reflected on my W-2; however, shortly after the tax cycle last year, I received a raise that would put me OVER the aforementioned number. My boss is willing to back this up in his letter and it reflects on my last three paychecks, but I'm still asked to provide a W-2 that doesn't reflect this.
My question is: Will this be a problem moving forward? Should I get a co-sponsor? Or should it be ok since all additional information points to me making plenty of money?
Thank you for your help!

My fiancé lost his return tickets back to the US for his last trip. We just put a note in there saying the tickets were misplaced.
Do you have other tickets from other trips? I would imagine a certain amount would be fine even if you had some missing, I don't think everyone would keep boarding passes.

You would change it with the USCIS if you haven't had approval yet.
Or at least, I'd imagine it would be with the USCIS.

the ds-160 is electronic some embassys replaced it from the ds-156,
Ah, I guess I didn't look hard enough concerning which embassy's have switched to the DS-160.
-
Isn't DS-160 used for all other non-immigrant visas apart from the K1?
-
Under the K1 guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide it says what you need to send to your fiancé. All I can see that you're missing from that list is a new letter of intent to marry and the copy of the NOA2.

He should file a change of address on the USCIS website when he moves so they have his new address yes.
You filling out the other forms with his new address is no problem because all you do is explain at the interview that he moved during the process, pretty simple! They might not even ask you about the address change either lol.
That's so easy! Explaining this now to my fiancé will make him jump in the air saying 'I told you it would all be easy!'
Thank you!

First time posting on VJ!
Concerning question 14 on the I-129F petition about where your fiancé(e) intends to live in the US, we filled it out as my fiancé's current address (he's the US citizen) thinking he was just going to have to stay in the same place to make things easier. Things have occurred where my fiancé is planning on moving back into his mother's house (which makes saving money SO much easier) in July. We filed our petition very early Feb, and if the average processing time is still 5 months (we're at VSC) when it gets forwarded to the NVC and then to the Consulate, the address would have changed permanently by then. The plan we have is whenever (who knows when that will be if it's VSC ) I'm approved and have the visa I will stay with him at his mother's house and then move out to find our own place. But the problem I keep thinking of is when I have to fill out the Packet 3 forms (or packet 4, I'm unsure) one of those forms asks me what address I will be staying at, which has changed since filing the I-129F. Would this make things difficult with the fact that the address has changed on both parts, and would a simple change of address on the USCIS website make Q.14 change to this address?
I hope you can all understand my ramblings, I like to over think things but it's things I want the answer to. Thank you.
With New Green Card, New SS#?
in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas

Interesting. He had some sort of website that helped him quickly research the validity of SS#'s. This was at the Nissan dealership, not some back-alley place, and it would have benefitted them to have my wife on the loan, so I don't know what the deal was. Maybe it just didn't recognize it because of the restrictions...? I dunno, got the loan, anyway, sooooo.
