Congrats to DEEBee ,Nigel and others. I had my oath ceremony yesterday with the full regalia. the US marine corp band,color guards and 4 additional judges. Turns out yesterday was Law Day and therefore a special court session was held. entire process lasted 1.5 hours mostly waiting for stragglers to come in(BTW, how is it that at least 3 persons were over an hour late-ath scheduled for 8:30,but didnt start until 9:30 within check ins and still the three were late. Got emotional when judge recalled our recent victory 24 hours before. Wow. it then hit me. America the great and i am officially a part of it. Then onward to passport office. BTW whats the point in appts when you have to wait 1 hour to be called. Then DOS agent says we have reached our cutoff for same day passport you will have to come in tomorrow after 1140 to pickup. Tell her it is unacceptable as i was there on time and even early,need it today. By 230 walked out with passport and onward to get expedited visa.

It has been an anxiety producing time for me but God is good,it is over!!!!.

Next steps filing for my spouse AOS.so unfortunately we still have to deal with them including our monies. Its all good.

Here I am using my cell at 140am in the morning and just a few hrs from now illl be taking my oath...I'm just chilling out the garden thinking I've been waiting yrs for this day and now its finally here....

Lots of things going through my mind and this day I won't forget I'm sure and with the latest and greatest news today that I can say I became a usc a day after bin laden was caught and killed....and what a time to become a usc after getting rid of the most hated person in the world.

God bless the us solders who done and is still doing a great job to keep us and the world safe from mad men like bin laden.

Yippee, praise the Lord!!! got oath letter today. next monday, may 2nd at 8:30am.Right on time... made passport appt for 11:30a at regional office for expedited processing as i fly out on may 3rd.

I'm so organized, you'd call me ####### retentive and you'd be right.

I have a vintage Steelcase steel cabinet in my house. It has 4 drawers, and the top drawyer contains the most important documents.

One folder says "SSA," one "DMV," another one "Passports," and then there's one labeled "USCIS."

I've been feeding it since 1986, so it contains even my tourist visa extention, my Green Card Lottery win envelope, my AOS, ROC, and Naturalization. In all its neatness, it only consumes one of these harmonica-style hanging files, and it's all in chronological order. It's possible that I at some point slim it down more, perhaps even get rid of most of the documents, but not anytime soon.

The least you should hang on to your stuff -- not boxes, but the important documents, for at least 2 years. Why? Because during this time period USCIS can undo your naturalization with the strike of a pen, without any involvement of a judge. Since you never know when the fates are going to kick you in the stomach, you need to know what paperwork they have from you and on you. After 2 years, you can decide to burn all of these documents if you like.

just Bob,what do you mean that USCIS can undo your naturalization and then without the involvement of a judge??? Never heard of such, except of course, for criminal acts,right? please explain. thx.

You can. They don´t spell it out completely at the State Department website (http://travel.state.gov/passport/hurry/hurry_831.html) but you can.

What you need is the following:

- All the docs you need anyway to apply for a passport the first time.

- To go to the DC office (maybe other ones that print passports as well but the only one I´ve seen stated for sure is the DC office), having made appointment to go there beforehand.

- To have, on the date of the appoinment, a travel itinerary (booked ticket) or a letter from employer showing that you need to travel within 14 days.

- To pay the expedite fee.

- To be willing to spend a whole day waiting for your passport. Literally waiting.

I´m wrapping up work in TX on the 12th and am planning to fly to DC that evening from DFW. The following morning I´ll show up at the Icelandic embassy and renew my passport (that would otherwise expire in October) and then at the state department at 11:30.

In the afternoon/evening I´ll drive back home. (5 hour drive)

3 days later I´ll travel.

Congratulations again. just curious, were you able to get that passport the same day for the DC regional passport agency??? only asking as i may need to do the same,whenever i am sworn in. had to pay to change flight once already as i do want to travel with the blue eagle passport and not have to be mindful of overstaying out of the country.

My wife changed her name as well, one month later she was at the oath ceremony and her new certificate already stated her changed name. So to answer your questions, about 3 weeks in Baltimore.

God is so good!!!

Whew, i have got my approval notice in hand, oath ceremony cut off was at 2p and my interview was scheduled for 2:20p but i was not seen until 2:45p. Seemed like the longest interview ever(didnt come out until 3:40p-hubby actually thought i was being sworn in right then and there without me even calling me in to join him)waiting room was empty with the exception of him and another couple(complared to the 30 persons before going in. IO(who was certainly non smiling and seemed very tired and like she said felt she had been repeating the same things over and over all day) at first got hung up on my one overstay by 9 days,which was when i relocated my mother back to her home country due to need for constant care which much more affordable,etc. I had the supporting medical docs but she kept harping on i which was the only time over six mnths and certainly had docs to prove that i still maintained my home here and returned to the home, then she took the file to her supervisor to review it and that person give the go ahead but also wanted a written statement to that fact,which the IO wrote and I signed. Interestingly enough i had to assist her with spelling alzheimers..LOL

Anyhoo, just waiting for that oath letter now so that i can file for hubby. Decided to also get the name change since the oath has to be scheduled anyway and she couldn't tell me when. FYI for those interested, Baltimore has two oaths a day 9a and 3p(with interview cut off at 2p) and 2x monthly oaths for those with name changes.

BTW-that waiting room told many stories...everyone with the look of anxiety,depression, elation-the full range of emotions, thats for sure.

of course, this is after the oath ceremony with naturalization certificate in hand. are they really able to come through with passports in as little as 24-48 hours?even at the steep costs? from reviews on yelp and other search engines,it seems as though some of them have standing emergency slots with the national passport agencies and guarantee the service. Now of course, you can go to the national passport agency yourself(stating your emergency if there is no appt) but the hiccup is that it is not guaranteed... are they in cahoot? cant help but wonder... Have to travel within a week of my interview and of course, claiming oath on the same day(Baltimore).:).

any thoughts???

Yes it is a busy but good start to the week. just found out from our lawyer( due to complex nature of my husbands case-has over 25 yrs experience) that he has never heard of USCIS being flexible enough to allow an earlier interview-delaying it yes. oh well,i will just travel at a later date, as i definitely do not want to reschedule it for a later time.

when your status has changed for testing & interview give it 7/10 days for a interveiw letter to be in your post.

Basab.....Don't worry i think your due any day now for a status change....as with several other members on looking at the list...

The wk is not over yet so i feel there's more status updates to come....fingers crossed...

jval ....Racardo had a info pass to see if he can change his interveiw date a little early....as i told him uscis don't bend that much witout a valid reason to change there scedule appointments,

but all this is down to your field office and the I.O who interveiws you....im not sure if your field office do same day oath or not or even when how often they have oath days..

again this is all down to your field office...

I see it's a bit of a tight sqeeze for you, but your grandmothers birthday is really not a valid reason for the field office to change such appointments, but saying that it might be worth you getting a info pass appointment and see what they got to say ....they can only say no to you.....give it a try i guess....who knows..they might say yes.. .

Thank you Jesus!!!! just received my interview letter dated March 3(in fact two of the same thing). Interview date is April 6th, at 2:20p- do all the I797C letters say request to appear for initial interview?? just noticed that.

also pls correct timeline, FP was actually 2/24/11.

anyone heard of request for earlier interview date? I would like to be with my mother for 83rd birthday on april 10th,so i am thinking with interview on the 6th in the afternoon at that, oath cannot occur until the next day? then apply for expedited passport/visa, means not enough business days to achieve that?

i know lots of questions-just a lot emotions right now.

God is in control!!!!

uscis website indicates i have been referred for testing and interview. I am praying that it will happen in the next two weeks,so that i can travel on that US passport for an upcoming trip,in addition to immediately applying for AOS for my hubby. Yes, i have already claimed victory in Jesus' name.

This too shall pass.
