  1. hi my wife was able to open her own savings a week after arrival using her passport and Philippines Driver's License with no hassle at all. I was also able to add her up to my checking account so we have joint. We have account at Chase bank. She also got her SSN before marriage and went back to the bank to update her SSN card after she got it. Summary: You can open acct and join an acct with using your passport and Driver's License :) Good luck to you!

  2. It has nothing to do with the process.

People change address all the time, all you do is update your address with USCIS. There is no issue they will NOT stop her from getting the visa just because you moved that is ridiculous.

How many forms does it take to do this? She said we would have to change the address on every form we've filled out so far, and it would be a huge hassle. She also said I would have to resend the I-134 and other forms.

Also, if she doesn't want to live in the Condo with my friend and his wife, where will she tell them we will be living, since we don't have an apartment yet.

Lastly, her interview is one week from this upcoming Friday, so about a week and a half. She's worried that we have to change the address on every form and doesn't want to go through the Hassle of doing that.

  3. Hello Everyone,

So, I have a bit of a dilemma here. When I filled out my K-1 Visa forms in February/March, I put my address as 1594 Kohr Pl. Since that time, my house, being in the ghetto, got robbed 2 times WHILE I was living there. The second time, I got robbed during the night when I was in bed. The robbers actually came up and pointed a gun at my head and asked where the rest of my stuff was. Fortunately, my brother called the cops before anything really bad happened, but they still made off with me and brother's wallets and his GPS.

I promptly decided this place was no longer safe to live in, and moved into a Condo with a friend.

I put my house up for Short-Sell, hoping that I can sell it before she gets here, so we can get our own place. My fiance was a bit worried about this, since we told them in our previous forms that we would be living at 1594 Kohr pl. She even wanted to move back into that address when she got here, but I really didn't feel safe.

Unfortunately, since that time, someone broke in, stole my Oven, my Microwave, Sink with Disposal and an AC unit in my upstairs window.

So now, we can't move back into our old place because there is nothing there and it's too dangerous.

-Can't afford a new apartment until I sell my old place or stop making mortgage payments

-Can't stop making Mortgage payments, because that will affect my credit, which will hurt my fiance's credit when she gets here.

-Can't sell my house cuz if I do, Fiancee says that the Embassy will know, and may not let her come here.

What do you guys think I should do?

  4. Hello VJ'ers,

I'm filling out our I-134 and I have a few questions.

    1. When putting in the real estate value, can you enter the amount which you originally bought the house at? Or it's current market value. I'm hoping we can just put in the original amount, because due to the recent housing crisis, my house is probably worth less than Half of what I paid for it.

If I do need to put in the current Market Value....

    A. Is there a way to look it up, or must I pay for an "Estimate"?

    B. Will underwater real estate negatively effect my I-134?

    2. What is the Cash Surrender Value? I think I read somewhere it's not really necessary if you met the "Income is equal or greater than 125% Poverty Guideline"

  5. Thanks for the reassurance everyone.

My Fiance is a bit worried, or a lot more worried than me because we haven't been approved and she feels that were the last people in February to get approved. I told her not to worry too much, but I was a bit concerned about the misdemeanor.

In case you're curious...the short story about my roomates dog. Basically, her dog got out of a fenced in back-yard when I let it out to use the restroom. She was never there, so I was trying to help her take care of it. Unfortunately, I left it outside overnight once, and the next morning Dog wardens were knocking on my door. Since my roommate wasn't home, and I didn't want to see the dog go to doggy jail, I agreed to pay the charges and get the money from her later...which made me responsible for the dog. I didn't realize there would be a misdemeanor associated with it.

I also went to court to try and fight it, but the court advisors (who were most likely just prosecutors trying to move everyone through the system) told me I couldn't switch the Misdemeanor or any fines over the actual owners name since I signed the papers, accepted the ticket and was harboring the dog

  6. Hey everyone,

So, my dear, sweet baby is really worried because we haven't been approved yet. We filed in February and it seems like it's taking forever and were both very worried about it (more her than I am, so far).

But here's the situation. We've tried calling the USCIS, but we haven't gotten very far. All they will tell us is that our case is pending. I even asked for a Tier 2 Immigration officer. The lady told me that they didn't have Immigration officers (and if I wanted to talk to one, I would have to make an appointment at a local office0, but they could connect me a tier 2 customer service person. That person just told me that the case was still pending. My GF also thinks that I "screwed up" on the call because I paused for a second before telling them my name, and almost said 16 instead of 15 when giving them my street address. She thinks this may be the reason we didn't get the information we wanted, because I didn't know how to talk to them or ask the right questions.

Also, were a bit worried because I have a minor misdemeanor on my record (due to my roommates dog not having it's license). Lastly, I haven't officially proposed to her and given her an engagement ring.

Do you guys think were being held back for any of the reasons above?

I'm not sure what I should do. Some people (including my GF), think that I need to continue calling them and pushing them. I don't know if this will help, and I never get any information that I want.

  7. Okay, my baby is very determined to get this mailed out ASAP! She's already completed the application again, even though it's almost 1:00am, she won't sleep until this is finished! I'm so proud of her.

So, I'm about to send it out a second time. The USCIS stapled my stuff together and put photos and such in a ziploc bag.

I just want to confirm that I don't need to change anything except adding the updated application and a current check. I don't want to mess anything up by trying to disassemble the forms that have been stapled together. I'm guess I'll leave the old/rejected application in there and add the new/updated one on top.

    Thanks

  8. Hey Everyone,

So, my application came back in the mail today, rejected for 2 reasons.

    1. Don't ask me why, but I wrote 12/31/2011 on the check. That's my dumbass fault

    2. More importantly, the forms me and my fiance used were outdated. I don't know where she found them, but I'm hoping someone can verify a link of the most up-to-date forms. I'm also curious when they were changed.

Sorry about the trouble. I just hope we can get this sent out again soon. My Filipino baby is very frustrated right now.

  9. Letter of intent is good as said before

Mail to Priority if you wish to

    For U.S. Postal Service:

    USCIS

    P.O. Box 660151

    Dallas, TX 75266

Depending on where your fiancee is from I would not include the love letters a bit over the top and cut your pics down to 10.

USCIS have so much to go through but if your petition is all organised and the evidence is precise all that you have will be fine. We placed all our documents together with paper clips and then placed in a large business envelope used for documents.

Please fill in a time line so we can see what stage you are at ok and good luck

First my fiance is from the Philippines.

Okay, so you're saying that if I mail it via USPS to the Dallas, TX location and they open it and see the cover letter/inside documents have the Lewisville, TX location...it won't be a big deal?

Are you sure? Because my GF really wants me to send it ASAP, she's getting really tired of delays we've been having. She thinks it will be returned IF the address on the inside forms doesn't match the address that it was sent to. She's also concerned about the extra day or two it may take to reach the USCIS going USPS as opposed to FedEx. Does anyone know the price difference between USPS and FEDEX, or another express courier?

Also, are you saying I might have too much evidence?

Should I omit any of the following evidence?

Receipts for Pre-Paid Phone or Dolphin ring gift

Tickets to the Skytower in Chicago

    Card with love notes inside

  10. I just want to make sure everything is correct, in order and good to go.

I'm about to go make some final Xerox's today. I also want to check on a few things.

We've decided to file without the assistance of a lawyer, even though I have a friend who works for some lawyers who offered to do it VERY cheaply (like $200-$250 for everything)

A few of these I believe are pretty minor, but still things my baby worries about.

    1. Probably the most important. I haven't officially pro-posed to my girlfriend, but for all intents and purposes, we've been planning on getting married for a few months...I just haven't officially popped the question on bended knee with a nice little engagement ring.

    2. Do the Petition/1-129F papers need to be sent to the exact address listed on the checklist? My GF printed a Checklist and we decided to send it to the USCIS address in Lewisville, TX 75067. My GF Told me that it MUST be sent via Express Courier to that address. I was debating on sending it via regular USPS to save money, but she said that if I sent it to OTHER address I would need to reprint our checklist to reflect that change.

    3. I actually accidentally overstayed in the Philippines by a week or two (past my passport visa). I had to pay $70 to leave, which wasn't too bad, considering I believe it costs at least $50 to extend your "Visa". I just hope this isn't good reason to call/use a lawyer.

    and other minor things

    3. When I copied all my passport pages, I stuck the Passport in the corner of the Xerox machine, and on a few occasions, I stuck it in upside-down.

So, EVERY single page of my passport is copied, but a few are turned updside down, and they're all in the corner of the paper.

    4. All my Airline Boarding Pass stubs aren't facing the same way, 2 of them are facing in one direction, 1 is up-side down.

    5. Do the papers need to be sent in any particular kind of envelope? My baby thinks it needs to be a "Brown" envelope?

    6. So far, we have we have the following evidence. I want to confirm this is good and substantial

    We have;

    A. Airline Itineraries and boarding passes/receipts for trips to the US (for her) and to the Philippines (for me)

    B. Passport Stamps

    C. Facebook, Skype and Magicjack call and chat logs

    D. AT least 15 Photos

    E. A card with love notes written inside

    F. Some SkyTower tickets from our trip to Chicago

    G. Receipts for a prepaid phone she used while she was here, and a dolphin ring I bought for her.

Do you think this is enough? I would really like to know asap. My baby is giving up hope because I've had the papers for a few weeks and haven't sent them out yet. But I'm hoping to send them tomorrow.
