  2. Hello All,

I already paid $88 and $404 (AOS and IV) fees to NVC. The status says "paid". However, I am not seeing any barcode beneath it. Am I missing something here? I will print those receipts and keep it for records. Do the consulate or my spouse need those records as a proof in future? Can someone answer it please?

    thanks

  3. Hi

I am trying to pay $88 and $404 but the website do not proceed to next step. I can "check" either one of amount and then I clicked "pay selected fees". Nothing happens. Is this website down during weekend? Can anyone suggest me or enlighten me on this procedure. thanks

  4. No they don't require such proof- if anything it would be the opposite, as you should never make concrete plans to move until you have the visa in hand; that would include not quitting your job if you have one, as you may be put in AP even after the interview and be stuck in your country for months yet.

In my case, at the interview I was asked what I was working at, and told them my job title (though they would have already known from my bio sheet anyway). They also asked what I intended working as in the USA, to which the answer was housewife, as our plan was for me not to work and look after the kids. No other job related questions were asked.

Thanks. I will tell my spouse not to quit.

  5. Hello everyone,

I am trying to find out information about CO interview on job issue. Does Consulate ask for job quitting proof? I read many CO interviews here but not finding it. Did anyone heard or experience such type of questions asked by consulate? Does NVC needs proof of job being quit?

Please shed some light here. Thanks

  6. Hello Members,

I luv this forum/website. It is awesome and you all are great. I have couple questions and appreciate your responses.

*When NVC mails out immigrant visa appointment letter to both (husband and wife), do they give flexible dates? Do they give multiple options?

*Any one here went to mumbai US consulate? Do reply. thanks

  7. ok guys so is this definitive answer:

easiest was is - Married Filing Separately - Spose will NOT have to sing ANYTHING and no need for her passport or any other docs. No need for W 7 too. ONLY downside is - highest tax liability

Best way for lowest tax liability - Married Filing Jointly - but will need spose passport or other docs + W7 + her signature ..

    Am i correct?

I also have similar question along those lines. My wife never been to the USA and we both got married in canada this nov. I prefer the route of married filing separately. However, IRS still need wife name and identification number. Putting down "NRA" may not help because free tax software need numbers. To get identification number a person need to file W 7 form. What tax software you all are using to bypass identification hurdle? I hope filing separately will not come back to bite me. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

  8. This post lays out the options well.

You may be able to get an ITIN number as described above. If no ITIN number for your wife, the only option is to file married filing separately, and put "NR" (non-resident) for her SSN.

    Thankyou all.

Harpa Timsah the link is useful. I was freaking out. I may go for married and filing separately. This way my wife do not have to file her income etc. Hopefully this will not come back to bite me.

I am in the same situation here. One poster suggested to put NR but does that really helps. I am filing electronically and cannot file unless wife SSN/tax identification number is posted. If you try doing it by paper/post then it may turn out to be same story. On 1040 form, IRS want us to put wife info.

Just wondering, if I can get an identification number (W7) and then file separately. This way I can avoid putting my wife income (even though she still have to visit USA). Any suggestion from members will be welcomed.

  10. Hello all,

I am a new member and this site is extremely useful. Let me introduce my problem to you all. May be someone here will help me.

I got married this Nov 2010 in canada. My wife is from india and she never visited USA. I am US citizen and currently filed for her immigration. At this time, I am filing for my 2010 taxes. I have two options on my tax form: ie to file jointly or separately. She works in india and has no USA income and has no USA identification number. The 1040 tax form is asking me to put her identification number and/or income etc. I am totally confused. I have so many questions but willing to wait for a while. I need to get info from you all. Please suggest me - thanks
