I went to Pakistan during the summer of 2004 to visit my parents, brother, and sister before starting medical school. I met and married my wife (a good friend of my sister) while I was there in May.
After a short time, I had to come back to work in the states. I'm in medical school now, also working part-time, and most of all -- staying stressed out about this visa garbage full-time.
This is a very painful time for my wife and me. I had no idea that it could be so difficult to get married and to just try to bring your husband/wife here.
I would encourage everyone to try to inform people around them, to write to senators/congressman (particularly the congressional immigration subcommittee members), and to generally try to raise as much of a stink about this dirty little American secret as possible.
One may as well be locked up for the year that he waits for his wife, or vice versa.
