We met at a music festival in Detroit, which is halfway between Chicago - where my now husband is from - and my previous home city, Toronto, Canada about two years ago, in the summer of 2006. We talked everyday on the phone and by instant messaging for two months before I invited him to come see me in Toronto. We visited each other every month and kept a long distance for a year before I was supposed to go travel for a year. I never made it past various cities in the US with my then boyfriend before he proposed. We eloped to Hawaii in February 2008 and kicked off our visa journey in mid April.
