Hi everyone, I wanted to share our situation and see if anyone has insight into how long these things are currently taking at the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá.

My husband (a Venezuelan national) had his immigrant visa interview on April 8, 2025. I went with him and while there, the officer requested one additional document, which we submitted the same day via the CAS. The embassy later confirmed receipt and said the case was in the queue for review. We followed up twice and eventually got a response saying they’re experiencing delays and that the final response may take “several additional weeks.”

What’s making us especially anxious is that they kept his passport after the interview. Since he’s in Colombia on a tourist entry, he’s only allowed to stay until June 20. He can’t return to Venezuela (there’s no U.S. embassy there) and obviously can’t travel to the U.S. without his passport—so he’s completely stuck until this gets resolved.

Has anyone recently gone through something similar at Bogotá and can share how long it took after document submission to get a final decision or the passport back? Thank you all in advance!!!

HI, sol how are you, me cases is similar

I am applying for my mother's IR5 resident visa. My interview was on May 7th, 2025 bogta, and unfortunately they gave me the yellow paper 221G form, requesting an older certificate for my mother than the one I had sent is not enough, since in Colombia they are now making digital certificates and she  the official, wanted a handwritten one old version,

She told me to send me that document originap  and the original passport, and we'll give you your answer.

Mom handed it over 2 days later to where they take fingerprints, and well, they don't say anything but it goes to an administrative process, unfortunately we have to wait.

It may take 8 to 10 weeks or more for the response to depend on the fact that the case is not reviewed by the same officer who conducted the interview, but by another.

My recommendation is that you go to Colombian immigration with a copy of your husband's passport. You can apply for an extension of stay with the paperwork the embassy gave you when they received your case.

Because if him exceed the days him would have to pay a fee in pesos. For exceed the number of days of stay
