Phone Number of Principal Applicant on I-864

Hi, the person we are sponsoring has an international phone number obviously. so on the form where it asks for their daytime phone number, do we have to put the international calling code or can we just put the number? When i put the code, then the number doesnt fit, but it fits without the calling code. I figured they should know which code to use based on his country of stay. Thanks!
