I'm adjusting status from a J1, and finished working a few weeks ago. I was wondering whether anyone had experience in requests for expediting the EAD without a concrete offer of employment? I was hoping to do some private tutoring work to bring in some extra cash to help supplement my wife's salary (to cover my loss of earnings, and extra costs that we didn't have when I was working, like my health insurance premiums) while we wait for the adjustment of status process to be complete.

I notice from reading the forums that other successful expedition requests required a letter of employment - obviously I don't have that, but I am qualified to provide private tuition (undergrad degree and PhD in math/hard science), and we live in a college town. Does anyone have any anecdotal evidence as to whether an application to expedite the EAD on these grounds would be successful?

Thanks in advance!
