Hello --- My wife and I are coming up for eligibility to apply for US citizenship (at which time we will reach the 90 days prior to our 5 year Green Anniversary) and had a question:

- My wife was out of the country for 7 months (1.5 months on dependent visa, 5.5 months on GreenCard) during the time immediately prior to and after she received the GreenCard. This was for studies.

There is a question on the N-400 asking for the full travel history for the past 5 years. If we apply 90 days prior to the GreenCard date, do we need to include the above trip for the time prior to the GreenCard? If so, would the 7 months cause confusion (requiring additional documentation)?

Yes. You must report anything within the last 5 years.

05/22/06 - Biometrics scheduled (online update) and appt letter was mailed on 05/20/16 - Day 12

05/24/06 - Biometrics letter became viewable online (appt scheduled for 06/07/16) - Day 14

05/27/16 - Received Biometrics letter in mail - Day 17

05/31/16 - Was denied walk-in fingerprints with just 1 person left in line. Milwaukee office, boo! - Day 21

06/07/16 - Biometrics completed in Milwaukee, WI - Day 28

12/21/16 - Passed Citizenship test/Interview was successful! - Day 197

01/26/17 - I am a US citizen!!! - Day 233

Thanks! Reading the requirement carefully, it says "If you have taken any trip outside the United States that lasted 6 months or more since becoming a Lawful Permanent Resident, send evidence that you (and your family) continued to live, work and/or keep ties to the United States".

Since no trip was longer than 6 months since becoming Lawful Permanent Resident (even though the trip in question was 7 months if the time prior to PR is added) Therefore, I don't think my wife is disqualified from applying in mid May.

I was thinking of adding the above explanation to the travel history and still applying in May. Thoughts?
