My green card is going to be expired in this June , I applied for US citizenship in early December last year , my application was received and accepted on 12/08, did the biometric on 2 weeks later , and on 12/31 I received an email update from USCIS telling me that I have been placed in line for interview , haven't heard of any updates ever since , today I called the USCIS customer service and spoke to a rep. , she checked the processing timeline and told me that New York City field office currently is on 8 months processing timeline , she suggested me to call back check again if i don't hear anything after this Auguest , which is almost another 6 months after from now , my concert is that , since my GC will be expried in this June , should I also renew the GC now just in case ? But to be honestly I do not want to spend twice the money since I'm already in the processing of getting my US citizenship , but I also don't want to get in trouble for not renewing my GC, I am not planning on travling or change my job anytime soon , should this be my concert or it doesn't really matter ? Also does anyone have the similar issues as mine and already passed the citizenship ? This has been really stressed out for me as the slow processing time in the local office , I check the staurs every single day and keeping my finger acrossed that my interview letter will come to me soon .

Don't bother!! An expired/expiring GC during a pending naturalization application is not an issue. Matter of fact, many people in your situation choose not to renew because of the additional cost. From the various threads it seems that NYC is one of the slower field offices because they have a high volume of applicants. Best of luck!!

Update : so I finally have an interview date which is coming up in 2 weeks , I'm going thru all the Check list to make sure I am fully prepared, just hoping I'm not forgetting anything , here's the check list that I'm gonna bring to the interview

1: my GC and I also made 2 copies of the card just in case

2: SS card & the interview letter

3: my passport which I used to enterd into US 10 years ago , it's already expired , since I've never taken any trips outside of the US since I got my green card , I don't see the reason to renew my passport .

4: my driver license

5: all the tax returns & W-2 for the past 5 years

6: 2 extra passport style photos just in case

7: 6 months of my pay stub copies from my current job to proof my address & my job

My citizenship is applied simply based on my residency in the US , not thru marriage , and I have no criminal records , I am married with no children , should I also bring my marriage certificate just to be on the safe side ?

Any advise on the documents I should bring ? Thanks and please wish me luck on passing the test !
