Defending your ship/base against the locals in a little different. DIP missions are not fun. I prefer not to fight with my back against the wall. Police tactics are all about containment, either about keeping people in, or keeping people out. Our tactics were about control and dispersal. That is much easier to do if you have mobility, rather than being forced to occupy a fixed position.

That makes sense. We had the gear and training, but nothing ever went down that needed us to suit up. For the most part Sicilians(except for the mob) were very peaceful.

We had a philosophy - "The normal, law-abiding citizen is not your enemy." That is hard to remember when they are hurling rocks and dropping piss bombs on you.
