Hi guys,

First, let me just say that I've found some great info on this forum. Everyone seems to be very helpful, so thanks so much. So here's my problem. I've been living in Cambodia with my fiance and her son for the past year. We've known each other 3 years total and I made the decision to move there last year. But now we decided that we want to move to the states. I'm getting all the documents ready and I see that a birth certificate with both parent's name on it is required. However, her son's birth certificate only has her name on it. She never put the dad's name on it because they weren't married. How big of an issue is this when we file a K2 for him? Will this be a deal breaker? As I'm getting everything put together I'm sure I will have many more questions. So thanks in advance for any help and advice.

In Mongolia, my stepchildren also had no father on birth certificate. It was not a problem. In fact, I think it makes it easier (no permission required from birth father).

Thank you for the reply. Did you have to show proof of sole custody or any other documents?
