Hello

I was told by the IV unit at the consulate that I have to amend all my civil documents that were submitted as part of the IV package because of a DOB descrapancy in Civil Status Deeds Registry Office and all my documents, including the birth certificate that I was given at birth. First I have to get a new birth certificate then start changing others one by one. With the exception of the marriage certificate, all docs are from my home country (currently there) and I can change them pretty quickly. I am a little worried about changing the marriage certificate as I am not physically present in the US.

My wife and I have a New York State marriage certificate (not New York City). I am still waiting to hear back from Town Clerk's office on amendment procedures. We really want to go and do it in the town clerk's office rather than mailing things. If it appears to be a difficult process I am going to talk with the consulate and see if they will allow me to amend it after I go to the US.

Can someone shed light on this procedure? Do you have experience or knowledge on how it goes? What happens if one spouse is not physically present in the US?

Thanks for any help
