Hey everyone,

I received an interview date at the end of February at 2:30PM. The location is about a 2.5 hour drive for me, which I don't mind - I am certainly not rescheduling my interview! However, I'm concerned about the timeline between the interview and the oath.

I am a college student with a really intense, heavy load of courses. The week after my interview, I had 4 midterms and a paper. The week after that, I'm heading straight to the Honduras for 6 days on a volunteer medical trip to provide free medical care to those with little resources in rural areas (I can't reschedule this as the group has already booked my tickets and I've paid for it - nonrefundable, etc.)

1. Does Fairfax still do same day oath, and if so, will I be able to do that seeing as how my interview time is so late? I am NOT a DC resident. I live in the mid-west area of Virginia.

2. If not, how long does Fairfax usually take to schedule your oath? I'm really afraid that they will schedule it within the two weeks where it would be impossible for me to make a trip up to Fairfax

3. Do they do oaths at a different location that your interview?

Thanks!

Hello. I had a 2.30pm (Friday) interview at Fairfax back in mid-December and they did offer me same day oath HOWEVER I do think that may have had to do with us being military, as she made a lot of references to that. In the event, I did not do it, as I wouldn't have had enough time to get a passport before some travel I had planned the next week. I do think in most cases they DO NOT offer same-day at Fairfax.

I am now waiting for them to schedule my oath. There's no rush from my end and the pass/approval letter I got at my interview says to only contact them if you haven't heard anything after 120 days. You can search the VJ timelines here to see average wait times.

You are also able to reschedule your oath once they do give you a date.

For VA residents, the oaths are done at the same place as the interview (I saw the signs for the room there) UNLESS you are changing your name, which needs to be done with a judge at a court OR in some special celebration cases e.g. someone on VJ had theirs at Arlington Cemetery around Veteran's Day.

Hope that helps!

regarding fairfax,VA field office... to be honest with you I feel they are moody, sometime they do the same day oath and sometimes they don't. it depends , if your interview in the early morning you would have the chance to get same day oath , assuming your case is finalized and ready to go.

and if they do all the ceremonies in the same office, the answer is it depends. they do some in the office and they do some as public ceremonies, I think it depends about where you live, some times they group by districts, and if you have a name change it would be in Alexandria court, if you live in NOVA, I remember one time a friend told me that they do the same day for the people who lives in fairfax ,,, My opinion, it all depends about your case and how nice your officer will be ! it doesn't hurt you to ask him/her after the interview.
