Hello all. My husband and I are both US citizens and adopted two boys (now ages 6 and 3) while we resided abroad. After the two year wait (the country in which they were born is a Hague convention country but currently has no US approved agencies), we got IR-2 visas for the boys. We traveled to the US, obtained SS#s and passports. Now we are being told (by a lawyer) that we need to re-adopt or re-affirm the adoptions here in the US. We do not have the certificate of citizenship having been told by the embassy worker that it was not needed once we have the US passport. We also do not have any of the background checks and homestudy forms as these were not needed in the adoption in their home country. Is this next step really necessary (re-adoption or re-affirmation)? What do I do if in the future my children need some proof of citizenship? Their birth certificates (which have our names on them and have no notation to indicate that the boys are adopted) show them to be born in this other country and we do not have the certificate of birth abroad. Any help is appreciated!

Thank you!!
