Hi everyone, I wanted to introduce myself since I'm new here. My wife and I are US citizens by birth, and 4 years ago was the happiest day of our lives...we adopted our son. He is the most wonderful and important part of our lives. My son came home on an IR4 visa, we received his permanent resident card, we finalized the adoption here in the US, and we got his US Passport proving he is now an American citizen and social security card (ss correctly has him listed in their system as a US citizen).

Some folks have told us that his US Passport is all the proof of citizenship he will ever need to get a job, go to college, and anything he decides to do with his life. But other people insist that a Certificate of Citizenship (N600) is essential. They even say that USCIS will always list as a permanent resident unless you file an N600 to have them update their system.

So anyway, we decided to go ahead and submit the N600 application for his Certificate of Citizenship to make sure our son has everything he might ever need in regards to proof of citizenship.

We mailed in the N600 today via express mail along with a check, 2 required photographs, copies of his foreign birth certificate, his new US birth certificate (record of foreign birth), copy of his permanent resident card, copy of the final adoption judgment here in the US which shows name change and that the adoption is finalized, copy of his US passport, copy of the foreign passport he came home on including the page stamped by uscis with the IR4 visa designation, copies of mine and my wife's birth certificates, our US passports, our drivers licenses, our marriage certificate, and our monthly house bill and homeowners insurance policy showing our address of residence. Of course we included a cover letter, the check, and the completed N600.

I hope this is all they need. I know alot of those documents are in his A# file but I thought it might be simpler for them if I included the copies.

I'm not concerned about the $550 fee, I just dread the waiting part, wondering if they received it, if they are working on it, worrying that I have made some kind of clerical error or oversight (even though I've double checked myself probably 25 times), etc,

I just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful advice and information I've found on visa journey and I hope you all can let me know what to expect next as far as communication etc. I sent the package via overnight so they should receive it on June 6 and I filled out the form to receive a text and/or email confirmation.

Thanks everybody, have a great day.
