Hello,

I am a US Citizen, and I am marrying a non-resident in the US on a student visa. We have all the paperwork lined up for when we get married, but we were wondering if changing her name after the wedding would affect the process. Does anyone know if her taking my last name would cause any delay or difficulty in the application process?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think so, just go to the MVA and show them your marriage certificate, and also get a change of ID....She automatically gets your last name when you both get married.

K-1 mailed March 10

NOA1- March 14th

NOA1-Hardcopy recieved March 18th

NOA2 August 12th

Waiting for NVC to assign case number!..

It would not. Her EAD ans GC will come out with your last name. :) If that's what she wants. I wish I could've done that

since my hubby now is quite disappointed i didn't take his last name when I applied for EAD and GC so now my ead card

is under my maiden name.

You will send the marriage certificate anyway proving she can take your last name on the application forms you would submit. :)

RyanBob,

My cousin went through the same process. She used her married last name in all the paperwork and didn't have any problems. Except she had to show she was married when she showed up to get her biometrics taken, given that she showed her passport with maiden name. She still was able to go through the process in less than 4 months.

Good Luck.

Thanks for everyone's fast replies. A followup (with names changed to protect the innocent). My fiancee was born in Hong Kong, and her name is Chun Li Chan. Her english name, and preferred name, is Jackie. If, when we get married, she changes her legal name to Jackie Chun-Li RyanRob (I know, I have a weird sense of humor)...is that considered on the same level as if she just took on my last name and became Chun Li RyanRob?
