Affidavit of Support for K1 visa

Dear Vj Folks,

Our interview is scheduled on May 4th and we are preparing documents for it. As per the package instructions we have to obtain the affidavit of support to prove that my fiance wouldnt go into a welfare program after he arrives. I've looked in to the requirements which is mentioned as 120% of the poverty line. In that case I dont have sufficient income as i am a full time student and work only during summer.

I have a family friend who is willing to sponsor. He works for the City of Chicago and earns very handsome amount of money and can very well meet the requirement.

I was told that the document to be filled in by me is the I - 134 even if i dont meet the requirements. But what document should be filled by my co sponsor. Is it I - 134 or I - 864 ?

Do I have to provide 2 I - 134, One from me and One from my co - sponsor?

You'll provide -2- I-134's. One for you, the other for the co-sponsor. Be sure to have all your co-sponsor's needed income information (ie: W-2's, tax returns, letter of employment, etc)... Basically, you'll need everything pertaining to your co-sponsor as you would yourself for the interview.

As Alan said, 2x I-134, yours and your co-sponsors, along with the same supporting documents. Even if you cannot meet the levels (which are 125%) you will always be the main sponsor as the petitioner. When your visa comes through, your co-sponsor will also need to complete an I-864 for adjusting your status. Don't forget that your co-sponsor has to count all his dependents, plus your fiance/ee and any other people he may have sponsored in his household size count. He doesn't have to count you, however.

It's also worth checking (ask in your regional forum) that your consulate accepts co-sponsors, not all do and those that are less accepting can demand that it be an immediate relative.
