I know a fellow in Florida who got his Congressman involved in his wife's AOS case when he became impatient with the notoriously long time it takes down there - typically on the order 2 years. His wife's case ended up taking 3 years and the USCIS office made it quite clear to him that it was because, with the case being followed by a Congressman, they were going 'by the book' and being extra careful that everything was done properly.

If you could provide some more details into how you feel your congressman was not helpful, that would surely benefit other members here. Many people do turn to their congressmen for assistance, and it would be useful to know in which particular circumstance a congressman proved to be a hinderance rather than a help.
