I apologize in advance for lengthy review but I hope this helps you out during your interview. Our appointment was scheduled for 11/25 at 645am and we arrived at 530am. We parked at a paid parking lot 1/2 block away ($300DOP/$7USD) There were already about 50 people on line. There are 3 lines for immigrant visa, 1 for tourist visa, 1 for other. The "buscones" people not working for consulate are there "helping" you line up or offering to hold your belongings and give you a ticket. You cannot take makeup, liquids, cigarettes, cell phones. I left my lipstick with them knowing I wouldn't get it back - they weren't even outside when I left. No one explains the order for the 3 immigrant visa lines until right before they open the doors and then you are scrambling to change lines and lose your order online. The first line (right side) was for the 6-7am appts and the others for 8 and 9 am. Once doors open, the line moves pretty quickly. You put your items through scanner and walk through metal detector. I didn't take a purse, my fiancé carried my ID and credit cards. We only took our docs with us. There is plenty of seating. they give you a ticket upon entering - we were #165 when we entered at 626am. Order started at #100. They started calling numbers right away and we waited about 30mins to be called. Pay attention to monitors as announcement is quick. At the window we were asked for fiancé's 2 photos, the appt letter, medical results, DS156k, DS160 confirmation and proof of payment. We still had a portion to pay so we sent us to another window to pay and them come back to him. ATTENTION: Either pay in USD or DOP but not both. lady in front of me had a mix of currency and she had to leave building to find an ATM somewhere. When he gave him proof of payment, he put in a manila folder where there were other documents but I couldn't see what they were but I did see a GREEN TICKET but he hadn't interviewed us so I didn't want to get my hopes up. He asked if we had kids (we don't) and then he sent us to stand on line for Window 1or2 and do biometrics. After that we were told to sit and wait to be called for interview. They were still calling other numbers (last I saw before being called was #258) but they were also calling earlier numbers in between for their interviews. Again, PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to monitors as numbers are moving quickly now and out of order. Around 945am we were called to window 26. A Caucasian man in his late 30s was our interviewer. He was very nice and polite. He had us swear in, made a joke/small talk I guess to relax us. We were very nervous and thought maybe stokes style interview since I am 8 years older than him and I filed the I129F 1 week after my divorce. However, we have been together for almost 3 years, traveled to several countries together and I had visited him over 30 times so we were confident that we would pass. Before the interview began, I again saw the green ticket (still didn't want to get my hopes up too much). Interview began with him asking fiancé to sign DS156k and my letter of intent. He then turned to me and asked:
How and where did you meet?
Ok, but give me more details. Exactly how did you start interacting? Who spoke to who first? What was the first thing he said to you?
Give me all your photo evidence.
When and where was the first time you went out? Who was there? You said you were on a work trip and here in DR with co-workers, did they go out with you?
When did you meet his family?
When did you come back to visit him again? Where did you stay? Who stayed there with you? Who lives in that house? You never meet his brother or family before that trip? How did you feel staying in this family's house?
Where does he live? Who lives with him? Who owns the house?
He then moved on to my Fiance
These pictures on top, explain them (they were pics of us in Instanbul dressed up as a Sultan and Princess).
You went to Instanbul!(he looked/sounded shocked) When and why? Of all the places in the world, why would you pick this one? How many days were you there?
What other countries have you visited? (my boyfriend gave him places and dates)
Wow, you have been to many nice places together.
Have you ever been in the US?
Have you even been detained by immigration?
Have you had problems with police?
Have you applied for a US Visa before? YES? oh that was a student Visa in 2012 correct? (My fiancé said yes and explained why he applied and reason for denial). So you wanted to Study English for a few months and spend time with her as well? (my fiance said yes but since it was denied I decided to attend a FT English course here in DR which I have been in for 1 year).
Who was going to pay for course? (I was his sponsor)
I see you understand some of the things I say in English when I speak to her. Did she teach you? (my fiancé explained between me and the school he had learned some English).
Did you read the pamphlet regarding spousal abuse? Yes? Ok well you can spend more time reading it on your own time.
Well Mr. De Leon.. DRAMATIC PAUSE..LIFTED HIS STAMP, looked at our application and... YOU ARE APPROVED. Congratulations!
We turned, looked at each in shock and kissed each other!!
The Officer was smiling and said take this ticket and go pay Domex. My fiancé was practically dragging me out of the building but I said "Wait.. do you need my Affidavit of Support and bank, taxes, etc?" He said No I don't but thanks for brining it. My fiancé grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the building, he said I don't want to see this place again, LET'S GO!!! lolol
The Domex line was very short - maybe 5 people in front of us. We paid and they gave us a Domex receipt with tracking number and told us Visa would be issued in 1-6 weeks. We were in the car and on our way to Boca Chica (where we met) to celebrate by 10:10 am. |

Fiancé entered EWR Terminal B on a FRiday night at 715pm from Dom Rep. He approached those directing people (red jackets) he was here on K1 and they told him which line to go to. He gave officer sealed envelope, they took him to another area to process paperwork. They called him up and asked how old Petitioner was and what was her address. Then they said "ok bye."
