I was traveling with my Chilean fiance as we journeyed from Santiago to Chicago. We had a layover in Mexico City. We feel really blessed that our trip and his entry to the US was VERY smooth. We arrived to Chicago at 1:40pm, and upon arriving to the immigration area, there was hardly any line. I asked a uniformed person who was standing around if I could go in the same line as my fiance who was entering on a K1 fiance visa, and they told me, that yes, I could. So, we went together to the line that they directed us to. We waited probably less than 5 minutes in line, and when we went up to the immigration officers desk, I pretty much did all the talking (my fiance doesn't speak much English yet). I handed him my passport and told him that I was coming with my fiance, who is entering on a K1 visa, and the guy sighed and said a sarcastic, "great!" Then my fiance handed the officer his passport and his sealed envelope. The officer had him put the four fingers of his right hand on a green screen thing to confirm his finger prints, and also told him to look at a camera to take his picture. Then he opened the envelope, looked at the first and last pages, rearranged the stack of papers a bit, and then stamped his passport and stapled the I-94 to one of the pages in his passport. The only question he asked my fiance, was where we would be living, and we said, Madison, Wisconsin. Then he told us that our information would be sent to Wisconsin and that they would contact us. He said, "the only thing you guys have to do is get married. Take care."
Over all VERY SMOOTH, and no hassles. But I really think it helped that we arrived at a low traffic time.
