Document intake is done only on Fridays and interview appointment is given at that time. Consular officer contacts beneficiary at the local address or phone number to notify them that they need to schedule medical and submit the medical report and original civil documents in order to schedule the interview. My wife went to the consular section on Friday 04/08 and submitted documents and medical reports. All other documents previously submitted to USCIS and to NVC were already in the hands of the consular officer. I sent my wife with a huge package of additional relationship evidence, text messages, e-mails, phone bills, travel documents, calling card receipts, etc... Thee officer saw the package and laughed saying "plese, we really already have enough" so my wife asked only to include about ten pages of original photographs in album pages which they accepted. The USC may not accompany the benificiary into the consular section on the day of document submission. The interview day went smoothly. All three of us dressed nicely but casually. We took a few toys so that our 4 year old son would have something to keep him busy. It did and he made sure that the entire room full of interviewees was kept entertained as he jumped and climbed all over us and was constantly chattering Mommy and Daddy. The waiting area in the consular section is small with seating for about 30. As you are admitted to the security building, you will be scanned with a hand metal detector wand and must remove all electronics including phones, cameras and flash drives from your belongings which are locked in a locker at that point. Purses, jackets and all personal items are scanned and you will pass through a metal detector and then be checked with a hand wand again. You will wait in the waiting room in the security building until there is room in the consular waiting room at which point you will be called and sent to the consular area. You will first be called for fingerprinting and then return to wait until you are called for the interview. The Consular officer who interviewed called my wife and son to the window. My wife told her that I was in attendance as well. The CO stated that if I wished I could be present at the window for the interview so I of course jumped to it! The interview felt as though it was over before it began as the questions were quite superficial and asked more from curiosity than clarification. She asked when we met, when we married, about the conditions that led to my wifes divorce and full legal custody of our son. She was asked about the Bio father and where he was and if he maintained contact. She was also asked if we had informed him that we were immigrating. At that point she said, "You are approved, welcome" She passed us a flag and all of our documents instructing us to return Tuesday to pick up the visas..............smoooooth! As we exited, the entire room full of people upon realizing that we had received our permission to be a complete family broke into smiles, laughter with us and a few even clapped!
