The overall experience was very good.

I had my interview scheduled at 8.45am; my husband (US citizen and petitioner) and I (French citizen and beneficiary) arrived at the consulate at 8am. We waited in line outside for 5/10 minutes and then we went through a first security checkpoint where they checked our bags and passport (laptops are not allowed!). Then we were greeted by a lady that took my passport and made sure that my appointment was that day and printed some sticker to put on my passport; after that they let us in. Before entering the building you have to go through a metal detector and give your phone to a guard.

My husband was allowed to enter the building with me and he also was allowed to attend the interview. When we entered two hostesses lead us to a line for immigrant visas; we were the first ones so we didn’t wait long. We got called at a window where a kind lady asked for all my documents: birth certificate, identity pictures, marriage certificate, police certificates, ds-260 confirmation page, the confirmation page of your choice for the delivery of the passport. She also got my fingerprints. After she got everything we received a ticket with a number and we had to go wait in a waiting area to be called for the actual interview.

We had to wait 20 minutes and then our number popped up on the screen. We went back to the main room to another window desk where the immigration officer was waiting, she was a very friendly lady. I had to take an oath and my fingerprints again. First she double-checked our emails and phone numbers, the address we will be living at as well. Then she asked a couple of questions to my husband and I: when did you get married? were you previously married? Do you have any children? why did you choose the USA over France?

We answered everything and afterwards she told as that it was all good and that she approved my visa. She told us that I would’ve been able to pick up my passport after two weeks approximately but I actually received one day after the interview!
