Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Our interview was on December 18th 2018 and scheduled for 9:30am. We arrived at 8:45. Security check, similar to airport. Security was incredibly rude and pushy, it was as if they hated being there, but we weren't really bothered by it, just eager to get inside. Got in the line-up which looks kinda like lining up at the bank. One person ahead of us. One person behind the counter. We were called up and then told to go back and wait in the line because we were too early. Everyone behind us had to do the same. We were then called back up about 15 minutes later, it was just after 9am at this point. Got a number. The guy behind the counter wasn't too friendly, but after checking our paperwork he softened and made a joke. We relaxed. Went upstairs. Like everyone else says, go to the seating area on the right, where the offices are. Otherwise you may not hear your number called. People are chatting amongst themselves so you have to listen and pay attention. Our number was called at about 9:45, we were one of the first to be called. Makes sense, we were one of the first in there.

We follow the agent to our interview room. Young girl, friendly. I had a text book of documents and copies but she did not ask for any of the items that I had expected her to. She really did not take anything from us, other than our newest tax return and our wedding photos. Since we moved a couple times since filing, she grilled us pretty hard about where we lived and the dates. The same questions asked several times over. At one point we were separated and questioned individually by her. The same questions about where we lived and when, were asked again, along with some other questions about our relationship.

The entire interview process took about an hour and a half. To make us even more concerned, we did not get a decision immediately. Instead I got a paper saying that they needed more time to review the case. The interviewer told us to wait 30-45 for a response. We left nervous, but still relieved to have got it over with. There were other couples I saw leaving with huge smiles, I knew they got approved.

As a follow up, we did eventually get approved. Day 44 at 6pm my status was updated online. So if you have a lengthy, stressful interview like we did, with no decision, do not fret.
