Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

I attended my husbands interview for his CR-1 Visa on December 28, 2016. His interview time was 7:30 am.

We arrived about 7:10 am and proceeded to line up and wait for entry into the embassy. One of the guards checked our documents, we had to have the correct size photos (5cm x 5 cm), a copy of the interview letter and the Aramex confirmation page. NOTE: you need the Aramex page that has a bar code on it. Quite a few people did not have the correct page. Luckily, there is a Aramex office across the street to get have the correct page printed at.

We were let into the embassy on a first come first in basis. We were the 12th person in line. Once inside we were given a numbered ticket, 612 and sat down to wait for our number to be called. We waited about a 1/2 hour to go to the window to submit our documents.

The woman at the counter asked for the following information:
Abdo's Visa and copy of Visa
His birth certificate, translation and copy
His military certificate
His police report and translation
My divorce certificate and copy
Letter from his current employer
My Affidavit of Support I-864 - She challenged me that we needed a co-sponsor. I told her we did not need this based on my income.
Interview Letter
Aramex Confirmation
Passport Photos
Sealed Medical Examination
Marriage Certificate and copy

I noticed when she opened the folder that our case was stamped Approved. So, I wasn't paying particular attention to everything she asked. However, she asked about children and if I spoke Arabic. Her job was to collect the information so the officer could interview Abdo, I believe most of her questions were not necessary and she was trying to scare my husband. We were instructed to sit and wait to be called for the interview.

We waited almost 1 1/2hrs for our interview. I went with my husband to window 15 which is more private then the rest of the windows. The interviewer asked how we met, how often we communicate, if I know any Arabic, when exactly I had traveled to Egypt. After documenting our answers on his computer he handed my husband a form and circled the part about paying the $165 Immigration Fee online. He then said congratulations you have been approved and good luck on your new life in America!

I asked how long it will take for the visa to be issued. He said up to 3 weeks.
