Review Topic: K1 Visa

We had a very smooth interview day. Overall we were in the embassy for maybe two hours. After waiting for a few minutes my fiance was called up to one of the windows to answer a few questions and have a quick review of her documents. She was then told to sit and wait. She was called up again after maybe 20 more minutes. She was interviewed for about 5 minutes and then the visa was approved.
The questions were basic: does he speak Spanish/do you speak English? What does he do? Were either of you previously married? Do either of you have any children? There might have been a couple of others, but nothing any more in depth than these.
I don't think they really looked at the proof of relationship beyond what was in my initial submittal. So I wouldn't go too overboard putting together a massive package. I did attend the interview with her, but it wasn't my impression that it made any difference with the result.
A couple of caveats: the interview was scheduled just after the State Department had fixed their problems with issuing visas. So I think normally there might be more interviewees present under normal conditions, so the wait times might be longer. Also if you are doing the medial exams and the embassy interview during the same trip make sure you give yourself plenty of time in Bogota. I didn't properly schedule the dates the first time and so had te reschedule the date of the embassy interview. And my fiance went to Bogota herself a couple of weeks before the interview to have the medical exams done.
Finally we stayed across the street at the Wyndham Bogota Art Hotel (the Wyndham Trypp is in the same building). It was very convenient being just a 5 minute walk from the embassy. And there are a number of restaurants adjacent to the hotel. It is maybe a ten minute walk from the Gran Estacion Mall. The only downside is that it is a bit far (30 minutes in a cab) from the Zona Rosa and tourist destinations if you are doing any of that while visiting Bogota.
