First and foremost we would like to give thanks to the most high. Through him all things a possible so we praise him!!

Shout out to everyone on VJ! We appreciate everyone who commented on our posts, shared their own experiences, and those that prayed for us. Let me say without VJ I don’t know what we would have done. It was truly a blessing that we stumble across this website.

Here is the blow-by-blow of my fiancé’s interview experience:

He lives in another state (5 hours away) so he arrived to Lagos the day before his interview. The morning of his interview he woke up around 4am. We talked on the phone and I gave him his well wishes. He left out around 5am and arrived at Embassy at 530am. He sent me a text and said it was jammed packed. There were at least over 500 people standing outside. He was so surprised. Around 645am an announcement was made outside stating that those individuals waiting for immigrant visa were to line up on one side and non-immigrant visa to line up on another side. So you joined the immigrant visa line.

There were a number of security checkpoints I think he said about 3 to 4. At the 1st security check point. Security asked everyone to open every sealed envelope in his or her possession. He said for those that did not have a place to leave their cell phones and bags, that you could leave them with the security guards. You just had to tag them with your name. My fiancé was able to bring in his nylon bags filled with his documents. He was also able to bring in his pen too. His name was confirmed on the interview list and he was allowed to proceed.

At security checkpoint #2, he was screened and his nylon bags were checked. They checked his pockets too. Then at security checkpoint #3 – all bags were screened again and he went thru the detectors similar to the airport. Once cleared then they entered the main entrance of the embassy. Then immediately he was asked to fill out some forms and pay his visa fee. He paid with US dollars $240 cash. As soon as he paid the visa fee, he heard his name being called immediately. As he approached the desk, he said a Nigerian man collected all of his Packet 3 documents (Affidavit of support, his passport, medicals, original birth certificate, DS-156, DS-156K, and took one of his passport pictures). He also asked for a copy of his birth certificate too. Ok this is where I got excited!! My fiancé told me as he stood there he could see our petition and he noticed a huge big red stamp that said APPROVED!!! He then said the guy collecting all the documents said to him “that your fiancé knows the rules.” We believe because all his documents were organized and not sealed. When I sent him the affidavit of support and all the other documents, I separated them by placing them in their own envelopes. But I didn’t seal them. It helped to keep everything organized too!

He said it took him about 45 minutes total to get through all the security checkpoints. He entered the main hall at exactly 7:14am (lol). Then he was asked to take a seat and the waiting began. He noticed that seating areas separates the immigrant and non-immigrant visas. He sat in the immigrant visa waiting area. He said the immigrant visa processing started much later….around 930am. And the non-immigrant visa processing started earlier because there were so many people waiting. He estimated about 700 – 1,000 people were waiting and more people were still showing up.

Initially there were only two CO’s conducting interviews for the immigrant visas. Their descriptions - one was a young average size white American guy and the other was big white American guy. Then later on another white old American man joined them. You could hear a lot of the interviews going on. He said there were approvals and denials. My fiancé said he didn’t have a preference for a CO’s. He just prayed for the best outcome and put it in Gods hands. He noticed the Big White guy was denying people. But then he also noticed that the older white guy was approving folks.

Right before his number was called he could tell that the next CO (The big white guy) had his petition because he could see our pictures and our huge WhatsApp chat log (we had about 300+pages). Then his number was called and he approached the window. He took his oath. Then he signed the DS-156K and they took his fingerprints.

Interview begins:

1. Tell me about your fiancé?
2. How did you meet your fiancé?
3. What do you know about your fiancé’s parents?
4. Where was she born?
5. Next thing the CO brought out 4 pictures and he asked some questions about who were in the pictures.
6. Tell me about her 1st trip to Nigeria when she came to see you.
7. Why do you want to marry in the U.S.?
8. But your family is here in Nigeria so why.
9. Who made the decision for us to get married in US?
10. What are your wedding plans?
11. Was your fiancé ever married?
12. Does she have any kids?
13. Was he ever married?
14. Does he any kids?
15. So then the CO picked up more pics from our original petition and he asked some questions about where and what we were doing in some of the pictures.
16. VISA approved!!! He gave him instructions when to pick up his visa!!!

He said his interview lasted about 10mins. He was out the door by 1100am. He was never asked for any additional evidence. Out of all the hundreds of pages of additional evidence we gathered….we had another 400+pages of WhatsApp Chat, emails, Skype logs, photo albums with over 100 pictures and so much more….they asked for NOTHING!!! I am telling you God is good!

Here are some final tips that really helped us during this process:

1. Believe in God!!
2. Research this VJ website from top to bottom. There are a lot of examples of forms, sample interview questions, and you can read about other experiences and seek advice from others, etc.
3. Read over all the K-1 process guides on VJ.
4. Start preparing your documents very early please don’t wait until the last minute.
5. Be well organized and neat.
6. Stay focused and confident
7. Know your loved one from the inside and out!
8. Pray, Pray and Pray!!!!

Well that is our experience. We wish everyone on VJ the best of luck. If you have any questions feel free to send me a message on my profile page.

May God continue to bless each and very union.
