  1. Hello All, My boyfriend wants to start a petition for K1 visa soon. We've met each other at work, but he worked in another office [we worked together for over an year before we started dating]. We share a lot of common interests: both love animals, we like similar music, etc. He used to work in my department before, which I believe may show that we have common interests even in regards to work. We both speak Spanish (he's a native Spanish speaker), share the same religion, etc. However, we've seen each other only once yet. He's coming to my country for 3 weeks in the end on this year and our plan is that he will start the process once he goes back to the US. As you can imagine we're still confused and have a ton of questions. I would appreciate if you share your opinion with me while we're hesitating which path to go. 1. Potential red flag: I am 24 and he is 35. We have age difference of 11 years. Do you think that this is a too bad? 2. Do you believe that it would be a problem that we would have met each other only twice prior of filing the petition? He visited me for 10 days (he just started a new job and couldn't take more time off), however he's coming again in December for 3 weeks. 3. I've read that lawyer may speed up the process as sometimes it takes a lot of time for the application/docs to be processed [e.g. we may make mistakes while completing it and they will return it for correction] and the petition may expire during this time. 4. I've been in the States three times before and I've never overstayed my visas (J1). I also have a serious job (been on this position for almost 2 years and make good money for the standard of living here). I was thinking to apply for a tourist visa before he starts the petition as he cannot take more time off work this year. Do you believe that in case I get a refusal this would trouble the K1 process? I would appreciate any opinion and thank you for your help!
  2. Dear VJers, I cannot believe that I get to write this post. Really! Visa approved, passport in hand and hubby just booked his ticket. In 2 weeks, we will all be together, finally! We did it, woohoo! So stoked and thankful to you all. I know that the only reason we were able to move along this journey without major battle wounds was because of you all. If I could, I'd hug ya'll who have lit the way for us. To the folks, with similar major "red flags" as ours, massive thanks for spending countless hours, days, weeks, years battling "the forces" and sharing your stories and knowledge here! I am eternally thankful to you! To the rest (moderators too!), thank you for keeping most of us hinged and offer your guidance and light. Thank you does not seem enough! Now for folks going through tough Embassies like ours -- if you are just starting out, I highly suggest searching the VJ and reading for several months before delving into the journey itself. Then once the ride starts, spend more time on facetime (time spent together), be truthful on all your dealing with officials and the rest will work out. Oooooh, what to do with 15 days while waiting for hubby? Organizing cabinets, dressers and closets (gotta make room for him, huzzah!) Clean (hahaha!) Did I say organize already? Thanks again, for providing this place, your guidance and your time! Wishing you all speedy visa journeys, peace of mind and total joy, in life and love!
  3. Hello everyone, I tryed to find answer to this in the forum, but I couldn't! So, my doubt is: Me and my boyfriend (USC) are considering to start the K1 visa process. I have an apartment in Brazil and since I plan to move to US in a couple (or several ) months, it is posted for sale. Once I have the money in hand, I would like to transfer it to US. 1)Is it okay to have an US bank account in my name while filling for a K1 visa or should I wait to transfer my money after approval? 2)It would be a personal account, not joint, but can this be considered a red flag if done before/during K1 process? Thanks in advance for the answers! This website is amazing!!!
