Treatment is included in the medical fee at St. Luke's, plus if you test positive at St. Luke's you are required to do the DOT program through them or you will not pass your medical.

DOT = Direct Observation Therapy

What if yOu have exposure to someone with TB? Does that make a difference in what tests they do, or how they handle your case? Would it cause a several week or month delay?

Nope doesn't change the tests.

Ok, thanks, Hank. So we shouldn't hesitate to answer that question truthfully...

Never lie during this process.

The thing with TB is it kills, plus it is a contagious disease ... better to be cured. We for sure don't want active cases of TB arriving here in the States.

i believe that if you have TB history you should bring your old xray and clearance from your doctor. because every time you have xray it will show that you have TB, the only thing that they will know it was cleared is from your previous xray and clearance from the doctor. in that case you will not take the 6mos medication again. of course you will still have the sputum tests for three days. same procedure except the 6 mos treatment.

Bringing old x-rays won't help, SLEC will go by their x-rays and if they feel the need to test the sputum will be next. Sputum test is 8 weeks. Three day test is the initial skin test for children.

Never hurts to show them old medical data but usually does not help either. But definitely don't lie. If you are caught that is a lifetime ban and possible criminal charges as well. And since the TB test and possible treatment are exactly the same either way, you have nothing to gain by lying even if you get away with it.

Our NOA2 was approved on Aug 2013, she has yet to start the treatment and living in Manila is costing more than she thought and I think our time is running out. I am thinking of going the CR1 route, or should we just reapply for a k1 after she has gone through treatment?

Your a little light on the details.

What treatment is she supposed to have started? TB?

Who required that treatment to be started? SLEC?

When did they examined her and what tests did she fail?

What time is running out?

Why hasn't she started "the treatment"?

Your interview date will be extended once TB treatment is complete if that is "the treatment". SLEC will inform USEM and make the interview date.

August 2013! I am confused about "she has yet to start treatment"? When did she do the medical at SLEC and why is she living in Manila without having started the treatment?? She should have been on the DOT last year.

She went in Nov 2013 and was told to come back, she had to return home because of the plane tickets being unable to be refunded or changed because they were on promo. She returned in Feb 2014 for the sputum, they contacted her to come for the results in Apr 2014. She tested positive for TB, but not her son. We were finally able to get her to Manila so she can go to St Lukes to start the treatment for TB. The time I am refering to is the window for us to get her past this and finish the visa process.

It is already July, I don't see 6 months being available "visa-wise" as I don't know that they can extend the validity more then a year. I serious suggest contacting the embassy and getting the facts, they may very well be able extend it further if she is in treatment, but get the facts from USEM not here.
