i am a nurse. skin test or we ca,l it PPD test which stands for pure protein derivatives is a test for exposure to tb bacteria and is not a confirmatory that the patient has tb. if the patient has a positive smin test. the doctor should confirm the diagnosis using DSSM ( direct sputum smear microscopy) or we call it in simple term as sputum culture. it usually takes 3 consecutive days for the test. and takes roughly around 2 weeks for the results to come out. it is not uncommon for kids to react to ppd as tb in philippines is endemic.

I'm so scared as my Fiance as she passed all tests and now her 7 & 9 Year old are on hold for an xray. Will a simple x ray pass them?

If they find something "suspicious" in the xray (like spots) or the xray is hazy, they might be subjected to undergo the sputum culture.

If the xray is "clear", then they're good to go. Vaccines will be given.

i agree with apple.doctors will check for possible( not confirmed) tb on xray. the xray will show whether the patient has. a previous history of Tb or wec all it primary complex for kids, but usally base from my experience as a nurse, not ALL patient who reacts to skin test positively have possible tb on xray. 9 out 10 cases they all went negative and got nothing to worry about,

Kids are asked to come back for an xray. I guess we will see what comes of that. Please note, These boys are very healthy and no lung or TB issues ever. I'm just afraid of the process and hope the kids aren't scared and think bad because of this. Most important is that they dont think any delay is their fault as they are our kids, I love them so much.

I see. The results will be given (if for sputum or vaccine) AFTER the xray.

So now that your kids tested positive they will always test positive and should never get another skin test because it will come out positive every time. They should always get x-rays. I tested positive before and from then I never get skin test again. Chest x-ray is the only way.

Keep it Real

Skin test is a test for exposure to TB but does not necessarily means positive. Everybody in the phils is exposed to TB. culture it to confirm. Worse comes to worst TB is treatable.

Same in the UK, but the Medical does not use skin tests. As they are pointless.
