Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada Review Topic: K1 Visa Event Description Review Date : February 13, 2019 Embassy Review : We arrived at 7:20 our 7:30am appt. The night before an email was issued by the Consulate stating that despite severe weather, visa services will remain open but staffing may be limited/delayed. There were roughly seven people before us in line. At 7:30, the CBSA officer let us in one (couple) at a time. Inside a lady at a podium checked our passports and put a sticker with my name and appt time on the back of mine. She also gave me a laminated sheet with #8 on it that listed the order our documents should be in. After the podium, we went through security one at a time, shoes on. Then we walked downstairs into the elevator waiting area where we organized our documents but the elevator arrived pretty fast so we only organized half. A security guard sent us (10-ish people) to the 19th floor where there are more chairs and counters to organize papers. The chairs on the side closer to the elevator are for immigrant visas (K-1s). Another security guard was very polite and helped people find seats when it got crowded. We finished organizing our documents here. Due to heavy snow, staffing was limited to one window until a second one opened up after 9:00. The first person approved (#2) left around 9:00. I was called to the documents window at 9:15. The man there asked for my documents similar to the order of the laminated sheet. He also took my biometric signature on a fingerprint scanner. He put my documents in a folder and said I could sit down and wait for my number to be called again. I sat down at 9:25 and got called to the interview window at 9:30. The interviewer there made me hold up my right hand and agree to tell the truth. Then he asked questions like: - How old were you when you moved to Canada? (I am a Canadian citizen not born in Canada) - How/when did you meet your fiance? - When did you meet in person? - Where does your fiance live? - What does your fiance do for work? - Ever have problems crossing the border or with the law? Afterwards, he said you're approved and gave me a pink approval sheet and mail info sheet. We left around 9:45, after 2h 25m. Tips: - If staying overnight in Montreal, stay close to the Consulate. We stayed at Le Square Phillips (3 min walk, flat land = easy in snow). - Bring photocopies of everything. They might take original documents. - Don't bring any electronics (phone, car keys, USBs) or bags -- makes security so much easier. - Listen carefully for your number. Staff announcing aren't always articulate. - Stand closer to the window to hear the staff because it's hard to hear them through the glass. - All vending machine snacks and drinks are $2 CAD each so bring toonies or exact change if you want them. - Sweaty fingertips are good for the fingerprint scanner. - It's better to bring more than not have what they request. Some people were complaining that it's a waste to bring stuff that isn't listed (proof of relationship, petitioner domicile) but this is your earliest chance to prove your case, so might as well be prepared! POE Review: Vancouver Event Description Entry Date : 2019-03-06 Embassy Review : Got to YVR at 9:30am three hours before my flight. Checked in luggage and went through security screening like usual which took about half an hour. At CBP where the attendant tells you where to line up, I told her I'm entering on a K1 visa and she directed me to a separate line that was empty. I went up to the next available officer and said I was entering on a K1 visa and gave him my passport with the sealed Do Not Open envelope. He reacted a little surprised but seemed to be familiar with the K1. Perhaps YVR doesn't see a lot of K visa entries... anyways he took my fingerprints just like at the Montreal interview. Then he led me to the secondary screening room and said to wait for my name to be called. You can't use your phone in this area (there's a sign) or they will scold you. After 5 minutes, the lady at the podium called my name, which I thought was interesting because all the other staff were behind counters. She asked for my boarding pass and the address I'll be staying at in the US. After typing on the computer, she mentioned that I have to get married within 90 days of entering. I agreed and she returned my passport and boarding pass and led me out the door. Whole thing was probably under 10 minutes. The best part was hearing other people being interrogated for bringing weird things. Harassment Level : Low

Local US CIS Office Review: Memphis TN Review Topic: cis_topic Event Description Review Date : October 23, 2019 Embassy Review : This review is for the NASHVILLE Field Office. AOS (from K1) interview 10/21 at 7:00. We were interviewed separately. I (immigrant) went in first at 7:30. The IO was polite and seemed familiar with our case details. She swore me in, took my photo and fingerprints. Right off the bat she said she was looking for evidence of co-mingling. She asked a few questions about the earlier part of my relationship with my husband: how we met, our first date, when/how I met my husband's family, how the proposal happened. Then we went over the I-485 together, noted my requested amendments and I signed the last page to confirm. She asked more questions like: What is your husband's mother's name? How many siblings does your husband have? What car does your husband have? What activities do you do together? What shows do you watch? What did you have for dinner last night? What's your breakfast? What did your husband get you for your birthday? What are you planning to do for your honeymoon? Are you planning to have children? For some of these answers I was able to show photo evidence. It felt more like an AMA than an interview since we were laughing at some of my answers. We went over some photos and afterwards I gave her the entire photoset. She asked if there were any other documents I'd like to add. I gave her ALL our copies of stuff she didn't already have on file: joint finances, joint health insurance, proofs of address, my husband's ID -- explaining each document as I went. She said to give her a month to make a decision and if there was a RFE (said it didn't seem likely) that they would mail us. She called my husband in at 8:30 and I sat in the waiting area. At that point I realized they were separating almost everyone. 10 minutes later my husband came out and we left. He told me the questions she asked (=same ones I got) and that he could tell she was pretending to sound interested at his answers lol. She also told him to give her a month. I don't know why they separated everyone but it didn't matter to us because we were honest in our answers and they matched. The IO seemed more focused on how we talked about our relationship than the papers. I can understand why since we didn't front load AOS (although we are K1). It was a positive experience overall. Status changed to New Card Is Being Produced overnight (dated 10/21) so the IO must have approved after we left. Harassment Level : Very Good
