Firstly I will say that the reviews of the Sydney consulate on this website were very helpful.
I went to the interview with my fiancee, as she is currently living in Australia with me. Word of warning: don't drive there if you can help it. We paid $60 for 2 hours of parking.
We entered the shopping area below the consulate and since we did some research we knew we had to go to an upper level and then go to level 10. We brought nothing with us except our paperwork and a bottle of water. You go in to the consulate and check your name off a list. There is a conveyor belt to check your stuff and you go through a security checkpoint. At the other end of the checkpoint you sit in a little area and wait for a security guard to take you to the elevator up to the proper level.
When we got to the level there's another security gate and you need to check off your name again. When you are buzzed through the big doors you need to get a ticket - we were told to get a ticket and go to the left however this was incorrect so we needed to get a second ticket for the interviews.
You are called up to a window and your paperwork is checked. This is all straight forward. Then you're called up to a second window. We only had a few questions, e.g. do you have a job lined up? We have been together 7 years so she asked for a brief history of our relationship. That was about it. You then get a slip of paper and a congratulations and you get your paperwork in the mail.
TIPS AND MAIN COMMENTS:
1. It was very easy and simple. No need to dress up - I was in jeans and a hoodie.
2. Don't drive if you can help it! Expensive parking
3. The interviews are done at windows like at a bank. We could hear the questions and answers of other interviews, so be aware that others can hear what you're saying.
Don't stress! It's not as bad as you think! |
