  1. Hi, I will be filing N-400 in mid-July using the 3 year rule of being married to U.S. citizen while being a permanent resident. I still have pending the removal of conditions (I-751) but since it may take a while I will go ahead to start gathering documents and apply. Please feel free to start the discussion of what documents to gather, tips, etc. Thanks!
  2. My sister is dual citizen, Canadian and Nepal. While filling N400, what should be her answer? Both countries have allowed her to keep the respective Passports. Question - 11 - Country of Citizenship or Nationality Also, should she submit passports from both countries along with online application? Is there an option to upload passport copies? Should she carry passport from both countries to interview?
  3. Hi there! I hope somebody can give me answers to my question... I was married to my husband for 15 before he passed away 2016. I was married in the US but didn't processed my citizenship because we went to live abroad. Fast forward 2014 I got the new green card and been living here in the US eversince. Since he passed away before the 3 year mark, I am eligible to file under the 5 year rule. I got married again this year, so my question... 1. Do I need to file to change of name under my new husband's family name in my green card before I file my my citizenship paperwork?
  4. Hello All, I am just getting ready to file my N 400 based on the 5-year rule. I have a question about the N 400 edition date. It says on the USCIS website that this is the 12/23/16 edition. Is this the most current one or is a more recent edition available? Also, what are the advantages of online filing vis-a-vis paper mailing? TIA :)
  5. Hi everyone, just wanted to group all N-400 filers from Louisville, KY and share the experience.
  6. Hello I am us citizen through naturalization living in india since 5 years .. my wife is indian citizen and my kids become indian citizen because i was short of few days for us stay while they born in india ... I would like to get my children us citizenship so what can be procedure?
  7. Hi All, After my N-400 application got approved I took US Citizenship Oath on 10/10/18 and received the Naturalization Certificate the same day. The next day i received an email from USCIS regarding my N-400 application stating the following: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS E-MAIL *** There has been a recent processing action taken on your case. Receipt Number: IOExxxxx Application Type: N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION Your Case Status: Decision On October 11, 2018, we issued your Certificate of Naturalization for your Form N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION, Receipt Number IOE0xxxxxxx. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address. During this step the formal decision (approved/denied) is written and the decision notice is mailed and/or emailed to the applicant/petitioner. You can use our current processing time to gauge when you can expect to receive a final decision. Log-in to your myUSCIS account to view your case history and understand what you can expect to happen next on your case. Current processing times can be found on the USCIS website at under Check Processing Times. Sincerely, **** The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) *************** --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since after this email I have not received any (approval/denial) letter either in the mail or email its been over 2 weeks. Just to give you a little background ..... on the Oath letter which i received there were some question on the back of it where you have to say yes/no to the some questions. So i have selected yes to one of the question where it ask "If i have traveled outside the US since i have been interviewed." Since i did traveled for 2 and half months so i mentioned the dates right next to the question as supervisor asked me to do so, then he asked me several questions regarding my whereabouts like where i have been traveled too, and what if I have kept my job in US while i was gone and if I own the house or renting a place and so on. But he (the supervisor) never asked for any of the proofs of that trip. Even though I did took all the proofs along with me (my rental lease, my car insurance, my utility bills, tax returns, paystubs, bank statements, etc...) along with me to justify my continuous resident in US while i was gone, but supervisor didn't ask for anything as i mentioned earlier and he simply put his remarks on the Oath Letter (form) and i was asked to go and take the oath so i did and got the Naturalization certificate and also registered for the voter registration right there. On the same day I also applied for my US passport and I have already got it in within 17 days. So i am not sure what is the purpose of this email which i have received just a day after the Oath? Is there anything to worry about? PS. I have taken the Oath on 10-oct and in the email they mentioned the Certificate of Naturalization was issued on 11-oct isn't it strange. I was wondering if anyone had a similar scenario or experience kindly please share Thanks !
  8. There is a question in the N-400 online application (applying under 3 year rule, married to US citizen): "Have you EVER been arrested, cited, or detained by any law enforcement officer (including any immigration official or any official of the U.S. armed forces) for any reason?" I have two minor traffic citations: 1) lights off at night, 2) improper right turn (turned right not the closest lane from me). I also have two parking ticket (parking in the wrong place). All traffic and parking tickets have been paid and none of them involved alcohol, I did not had to appear in court. Should I answer yes to that question? Which tickets should mention? Traffic tickets and parking tickets or only traffic tickets? or none? My 36 month traffic record does not show any of them because it happened more than 3 years ago. I no longer live in that state so I would have to travel to request a 5 year driving record if needed. Thanks!
  9. I was working for employer but the temporary agency who did find the job for me was paying for me for three months before my employer start formally paying for me. I was reviewing my document and did find there is a W2 for temporary agency,I overlooked ,in my mind I physically worked for one employer and it didn't come to me to disclose the temporary agency in the N-400 until I found the W2.the question is ,I already submitted the N-400, so should I fix that in the N-400 at the interview ? your experience and suggestions are high appreciate
  10. I come to us since 2004 as F1 and graduated in 2013. Got green card through married in 2014. Does 5 years legible to apply us citizenship count from the date I got green card in 2014 or from the date I entered the US in 2004? Do I have to wait till 5 years to apply cos we got divorce before 3 years period require?
  11. Hello, when is my new filing date for N400 if I became an LPR on Feb 2013, left the US with re-entry permit on April 05, 2013-June 18, 2015 and re-established myself here in the US since then? I've posted before and a comment said I can use the 4 years + 1 day rule so I can apply June 19, 2019. I'm really conflicted since the naturalization guidebook said if I can use it if I returned within 2 years which I didn't because I returned 2 years and 2 months later but the USCIS policy (8 C.F.R. ? 316.5(c)(1)(ii)) didn't mention anything other than trips for one year or more so I'm thinking to just go for the 5 years like the usual. Would that then be June 18, 2020? Can I then take advantage of the 90 days early filing so I can apply March 20, 2020? Thanks in advance.
  12. Should I mention warning ticket/notice on your n-400 application ? I just remembered that I only had one warning ticket/notice , I was driving down the road and a cop pulled me over and then brought me a warning ticket and the reason was improper lane usage,I already mailed the N-400 and I'm wondering if I should answered "YES" to the following question: Have you ever been arrested, cited or detained by any law enforcement officer for any reason? should I fixed it at the interview and tell the IO before we start?
  13. Hello everyone, I had my fingerprints done on June 6th for my N400 applictaion. The status on my DHS says "we reviewed you biometrics" up to now. However, when i check my case status on the uscis website, it is saying " casr is being actively reviewed". My field office is jacksonville, fl. For those of you who have applied in the same office and have had their interview appoinment or those of you who are lawes, i would like if you share your citizenship experience with me. I would like to know how long after the biometrics appt. your case status changed to "in line for interview" or "scheduled for interview". We are planning on going overseas no later than November, and would like to get some information in this matter. I am really hoping that my case will be approved by that time.. Best regard, Imane.
  14. Its too late to ask this question but better to know .I already submitted N400 application for both myself and my wife with separate applications forms checks and photos but only one translated marriage certificate.should send two translated marriage certificates so one for my wife application and one for my application?will they accept one application and reject the other?or they will reject both? or one translated marriage certificate should be fine for both applications? Both are permanent residents since 5 years.
  15. I have different name on my passport and marriage certificate in the last name only so I will give you an example(not real names) to understand my issue. - In birth certificate my name is Srini Abjer Aldi - In marriage certificate my names is Srini Abjer Aldi - In the passport is Srini Abjer Aldi Aldi - in SS is Srini Aldi (first and last name only) I don't know if this is an issue or if they ask for SS in the interview ? As you see different is middle name is Abjer Aldi in the passport which is compound middle and last name and its Abjer every where (GC,DL and foreign marriage certificate) Questions ? 1-I already mailed the N-400 but I don't know if I can fix it at interview if I find someone had same issue and how to fix it or should I leave as is? 2-what I should put in the current legal names in the N-400? I already submitted the passport names version( Srini Abjer Aldi Aldi) 5 years ago in GC forms(i-485 and G325A) because I thought the current legal names is what you have in the passport not the one in the birth certificate and I don't know if that will cause a problem if I put different legal name in N-400 ? 3-Are they will ask for original birth certificate If they see the discrepancies between my marriage certificate and passport ?I have a copy of my birth certificate and its hard to bring the original from foreign country I'm thinking about this issue every day since I mailed the application and start talking to my self about this issue and I don't know if I have to hire attorney to get advice about what I should do if I need to fix this issue or if I can fix this issue at interview. your advice is very much appreciated .

I already submit the passport names version( last name is duplicate ) 4 years ago because I thought the current legal names is what you have in the passport not the one in the birth certificate and I don't know if that will cause a problem ? 2-Are they will ask for original birth certificate If they see the discrepancies between my marriage certificate and passport ?I have a copy of my birth certificate and its hard to bring the original from foreign country if anybody had same issue or know what I should do .your advice is very much appreciated .
  17. Hello All I promised myself that i will post as soon as my interview was done NBC Number Charlotte Office N400 Application Sent - 08/09/17 N400 PD - 08/10/17 Biometrics Letter Received - 08/18/17 Biometrics Completed - 09/07/17 In Line for Interview - 09/11/17 Interview Scheduled notice - 01/30/2018 Interview Scheduled - 03/08/2018 Approved - 03/08/2018 Oath Scheduled - 03/15/2018 My interview was scheduled for 03/08/18 for 12:45. I arrived at the Charlotte USCIS office at 12:15. There was no one at the security line, took me maybe a few minutes to get through. I had to remove my belt, shoes and anything in my pockets. The guards were extremely nice and wished me best of luck I went into the waiting room and provided my interview letter to one of the officers behind the first counter. She took the interview letter and told me to have a seat and said she would call me by name. I waited for about 20 minutes before she called me, once I went to the counter she gave me back my interview letter with a token number written on it. I sat there till 1:15 when the IO came and called me by my name. My wife was asked to stay behind. I followed her through a set of double doors and then to her office. She had me put my folder with my evidence on a chair, had me stay standing and take the oath. Once the oath was done she had me sit on the first chair and she went through the first half of the Application Confirmed my name, my date of birth, social, current phone number. She said she was going to stop there and get to the Civics and English portion of the process Started with the questions 1) Cant remember 2) When do we vote for the President? 3) How many US Representatives? 4) How many years do we vote for a US Representative? 5) Who is the father of our nation? 6) Who is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court? Overall Pretty easy questions - breezed through them Next was the reading and writing part of the process She had me read "When do we vote for the President?" She had me write "We vote for the President in November." Once that was complete. She did not say anything but went back to my application We went through the Yes/No questions along with Travel and Employment questions She asked me if i took any trips abroad during the time i was waiting for the Interview and I said yes. She made notes on that She asked me if I changed jobs or anything like that, I said yes and she made a few more notes When we got to the Citations part, i told her that i forgot to mention a ticket that i received in California in 2014, all she has asked was if i Paid it and I said - No Evidence was asked The suddenly she stopped and said Hey why did u apply under the 3 year rule and not the 5 year rule. I said I was applying Naturalization based on Marriage, she looked up something on her computer and she said i was fine. She mentioned that i was eligible both ways!!! Got me really nervous at this point. She was really fast in asking the Yes/No questions. She was very nice and courteous. Once everything was done. She had me sign the application two times. One for the information being correct and the other that i understand the Oath. Once that was done she said "Congratulation i am recommending you for approval, if my supervisor approves it, you will get a Oath Ceremony Letter today!" She also said that if she comes back to get me that something was wrong in my application She escorted me back to the waiting room. Wife and myself sat there patiently and about 45 Minutes later an another lady comes and calls out my name with three others. (Extremely nervous at this point!!!) She said that our Oath was scheduled for Mar 15th@9:30 AM, she went over the oath form and when to fill out the questions that are there. Told us to come 30 Minutes prior and dress formally. That was that.....Yay i am so excited!!!!!!!!
  18. Hello visa j’s. I just want to ask how long will it take to process the citizenship application? I will be eligible next month using the 5 year rule. What documents are needed in filing and how much does it cost. Thanks all!!!
  19. Hello all, I am residing in the US and applying for citizenship under the 5 year rule, (90 days advanced ONLINE Filing). I am single, never married. Did not have trips that last longer than 6 months. Filed my income taxes every year. When I reached the Evidence page of the online n-400 application form, I only see the “Permanent Resident Card” under the Required Evidence section. Does that mean that I only have to upload a front and back copy of my Green Card, and nothing else? Thank you in advanced!

  21. So, my status changed on Feb 8 and it says my oath ceremony letter was mailed and to call if I dont receive it by March 10. It's been 2 weeks and no mail yet. I found out about that my oath is scheduled on March 5th because I called the district court that I chose to attend. I tried changing the location before but they would not allow it as it is not within my district. And my district only does ceremony once a year. I was trying to look for an infopass appointment in my local uscis office which is btw 8 hours drive and it does not have anything open in the next 14 days. I only have 5 business days left to wait for my appointment letter. If it does not arrive can I just attend the ceremony and have them verify my name on their list and print me out whatever I need to fill out? This is making me nervous. I have been waiting for 7 months since my approval. I cannot miss this appointment. 😯
