  1. Hello everyone! This is my first time posting. I am a US citizen (also have Turkish citizenship) and currently living in the USA. I met my fiance through a family friend in the Fall of 2020. We maintained a long distance relationship for about 9 months. In the summer of 2021 I went to Turkey to meet my fiance and we decided to get engaged. We had a small engagement ceremony with both of our families in her house. After spending 3 weeks with her, I had to fly back to USA due to my job. Since my return to the USA, we have been video chatting literally everyday for hours. We now decided to get married but are in no rush. We don't have a significant preference on whether we get officially married in the USA or in Turkey. Nonetheless, our marriage ceremony will take place in Turkey with our families and friends likely in the summer of 2022. I am quite indecisive on whether to pursue a CR1 or K1 visa route. I have a very legitimate and prestigious job in the USA, thus we do not have any financial restraints. Namely, my fiance does not have to work in the USA or make money immediately. Our main priority is to bring my fiance to the USA as fast as possible. It has been really hard to be away from her and we really would like to be together ASAP. I know that with COVID-19 pandemic things have been slower than usual, which is expected. However, I am seeing an improvement in processing timelines. Turkish consulate currently processes and prioritized all K type and immigration visas. My fiance still has 8 months of college to go through before she can come to the USA. However, once she is done with school, we would like to be reunited promptly. If needed be, I can get married officially as soon as in January 2022 in Turkey or can delay it to pursue an official marriage in the USA once she arrives here. I apologize for the long thread but wanted to share as much as I could for the best guidance. Thank you in advance! I appreciate your time.
  2. Does anyone have an update on when the embassy in Ankara will resume routine visa services? Our K1 case has been stuck at the NVC since March 2021. When we inquired with the NVC they informed us they, “will not forward K1 visa petitions to Ankara until they resume routine visa services.” Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks
  3. Hi everyone, I'm brand new to this site so apologies if I'm in the wrong forum. I'm an American citizen (29, F) currently visiting my boyfriend in Turkey (he is a Turkish citizen). I will be returning home next month, and we are hoping to obtain a tourist visa so he can visit me in California as soon as possible. Does anyone have any information about how long this process may take, whether he will be able to schedule an interview any time soon, or any other tips? I've been told he shouldn't mention that he has an American girlfriend (lest we have to apply for a K1 visa instead - which we aren't yet ready to do), but it seems it would be difficult to provide them the necessary information to obtain a tourist visa without lying about that fact, which doesn't seem particularly wise. He spent a year in the US previously during college for educational purposes, and did not overstay his visa, so I figure that could give us an advantage in applying for a tourist visa? He has travelled abroad to other countries as well and never overstayed his visas there either. His entire family lives in Turkey, they are well-off and he has a good job + financial ties to his country, so I doubt he would have difficulty with that aspect of the visa; However, my biggest concerns are delays related to Covid and whether the embassies in Istanbul or Ankara are currently scheduling interviews in any sort of timely manner. We plan to move forward with the application, but when we have called the embassy the recorded message still says routine visa services are suspended.. Any help or advice is very much appreciated!
  4. Hello, Does anyone know if the US embassy in Turkey resumed scheduling or rescheduling immigrant visa interviews????
  5. Hello, I am in the process of submitting my I-485 package with my US citizen spouse. I am currently on a STEM OPT Status (F1 Visa) and will be applying with I-130 and I-485 packet very soon. Pretty much all USCIS forms I've filled out ask for: 1) Date of Birth 2) City/Town Village of Birth 3) Country of Birth My whole life I've assumed the fact that I was born in Istanbul, Turkey and I got my OPT & STEM OPT I-765s through writing "Istanbul" in City of Birth box. Now, since I-485 is a bigger deal than I-765 for OPTs, I don't want to make any mistakes and risk an RFE. My passport, national ID card(kimlik) and birth certificate(vukuatli nufus kayit ornegi) say 'Bahcelievler' under place of birth. However Bahcelievler is a district of Istanbul and not a city on its own from my understanding. If I list Istanbul as city of birth for my application, would I risk getting an RFE? Please consider the fact that Bahcelievler is not a town/city/village as per Turkish standards. If there's any Turkish person who sees this post and dealt with USCIS can shed some light, I would be forever grateful. Thank you!!
  6. Can an EAD combo card holder ("Serves as I-512 Advance Parole) travel into and out of Turkey (with Turkish visa) on a short vacation on the way back from Pakistan without having a problem from the border staff and airline staff at the Istanbul airport? Traveller is married through a K-1 visa and resides in the US with a pending I-485 AOS application. The I-512 is one of the travel document options on Turkish Airlines check-in kiosk, btw. The airlines and the consulates don't give a straight answer. If you have experience with this situation, please share.
  7. Anyone scheduled for 9/24 interview get a random email about being canceled?
  8. My husband is from Iraq . Because the embassy in Baghdad is closed his case was transferred to Ankara, Turkey . Our priority date is 11/25/2018 . I submitted our documents in Jan 10,2020 . Nvc was late reviewing our documents so our DQ is may 01,2020. I submitted an expedite request for interview and they have denied twice . Has anyone had their interview recently or scheduled for one soon ? How did it go ? Did you have to do your medical examination before the interview ? I know on Embassy in Baghdad it said that you didn’t have to have exam prior to interview but with it being at a different embassy I didnt know if it would change ? I’m trying to be positive but it’s hard and i don’t know how much longer of a wait . Our visa type Cr-1 . Next month will be married for 2 years so it will change to IR-1
  9. I am having trouble figuring out exactly what I need to bring with me to Turkey to get married and was hoping I could find someone here who has gone through the process. We are getting married in Adana. I have spoken to the consulate in Ankara and they told me I can make an appointment for the affadavit to marry once I arrive in the city. My question is what is everything I need to bring with me from the USA to get married in Turkey. Is there anything that I can do here and prepare ahead of time? Also I have heard some people mention getting apostille for their documents but there is no mention of that on the marriage instructions provided by the US consulate in Turkey. Thank you so much for your help!
  10. I am just curious to know if anyone has interview scheduled at Embassy Ankara, Turkey without expedite or emergency. Our DQ was on 4/20 still waiting to hear from embassy. I saw one Turkish lawyer on Instagram said his 3 client have interview coming up in July but he didn't mention if it they were expedite or not.
