  1. Hey all I’m starting this thread for any South African couples waiting for their visa to be processed, petition approved, or couples who have already been approved. If you have any stories or advice please do share. I sent my petition in on 02/12/2018 it was delivered 02/15/2018 I received my NOA1 02/20/2018. I’m currently waiting for my NOA2
  2. My husband is a US citizen and also holds south african citizenship. We are both south African born and he has recently become a citizen after naturalizing from a green card. He has properties in USA and SA, files taxes in both countries , has a car in SA and has a business in SA. He has been in USA for the last 7 months. If he returns to SA must we wait for 6 months of physical presence to apply for DCF or can we apply sooner. I've noticed there is a difference often between residence and physical presence but I'm confused by the 6month residency. Thanks:)
  3. I have looked high and low for the rescheduling policies for the US consulate in South Africa and I only get redirected some where else and find nothing... does anyone one know the policy of rescheduling interviews for SA?
  4. Hello, My husband and I received a notice from the NVC telling us that we are now documentarily qualified and that they will work with the embassy in Johannesburg to schedule a visa interview. We got this email over two months ago now and have still not heard anything about an interview. Does anyone have any idea of how long it takes to get an interview scheduled in South Africa for the IR1/CR1 visa? Any information would be super helpful! Thanks so much! Meagan and Andrew
  5. Hello my fiance and I received P3 from the SA Consulate in Johannesburg and I am trying to book an appointment for an interview however, it keeps saying to check back in a few days, does anyone know how often they post new dates?
  6. USING A FRIEND AS A CO-SPONSOR I am trying to plan in advance. I am the US partner. One of my best friends, who visited my fiance and I twice when we lived in Taiwan, has offered to co-sponsor for her. I have only recently returned to the US after 3+ years abroad and am working freelance/my income won't suffice. While it is entirely possible I will find a job with sufficient income before the interview, a) I might not and b) the income may still be insufficient (also if you have only just started working, what income would you even show??). My friend lives in Chicago, where I lived for 9 years before moving overseas. At the moment, I am in California, although I am looking for work in Chicago and on the East Coast. I've read one case on VJ in which someone was rejected due to the co-sponsor living out of state and am a little panicky now (this site calms some worries and stokes others). Does the fact that the co-sponsor lives in another state matter? Random information that may/not help: I have filed taxes while abroad, but I still won't qualify I can't look for work until after the summer, due to travel My friend does qualify One of the photos we used as evidence when filing has her in it and states that it was taken on her second trip to see us in Taiwan (idk if this will help) My mother (only US domiciled parent) does not qualify-- all other family is overseas NOA1- April 22, 2019 Fiance is from South Africa and will be doing the interview in Johannesburg.
  7. Hey guys, I have a question that may sound a little silly. Our case has been approved, we were issued our case number, and the embassy in South Africa received our case. The case was received by the U.S. Embassy in Johannesburg on the 9th of April. My question is, do I have to wait for them to contact me first by sending the Packet 3 before registering my appointment for the interview on the website. If so, how long does it take to typically receive Packet 3? Thank you so much!
  8. So my (beneficary) fiance and I arrived at our new home two days ago. The anxiety and fear of the interview is over. The wait for approval and papers is postponed until the next steps after the wedding. I go back to work, and now she... Is thousands of miles away from everything familiar to her. Her family, friends, and everything she's ever known. Everything here is foreign to her. She's excited for the future, but also sad for what she's left behind. Who out there knows the mixture of emotions, hope and fear, happiness and sadness? Who in the world could she share these feelings with that could relate or understand? How weird is it that there is no one to pump your gas or check your oil? Where are the car guards? Why aren't there bars on the windows? I'm being extra and dramatic, I know. But there are so many great people I've chatted with here. I think it would be great to start a What'sApp group for those who have come to the states on a K1 visa from South Africa. If the only shared experience is coming to the states from South Africa on a K1 visa, then that's a pretty big thing that is the basis for support, ideas, recipes, shopping, tips, recommendations, or just witty banter that only South Africans can understand. In fact, I don't need to be part of it. I just think it could be good for my fiance and good for others who have went through this life altering process. Anyone?
  9. I am the mom of an American petitioner advising the mom of a SA beneficiary!! (We are both International helicopter parents I guess 😊). I’ve been guiding my daughter and her fiancé on this journey for months. Finally we are approaching the Interview May 30. After months and months of pursuing the UBC from Home Affairs, it was finally available yesterday and printed there. Yesterday we celebrated, since that was the last hurdle before the interview. My in-law to be (beneficiary’s mom) is now saying she needs to get the UBC certified. Does anybody know what she means? I haven’t seen it stated that the UBC needs to be certified- and I’m afraid something might happen to the UBC with this next step... Advice welcomed!!
  10. Hi all, Can anyone help us? We are trying to figure out the process of obtaining a police clearance from South Africa. My fiancé lived there for a period of time. He is not a citizen of there and no longer lives in that country. We are trying to figure out how to obtain the police clearance. He has completed the fingerprints and can send them via DHL there, but DHL said they don't pick up from there and therefore won't send a return envelope. We can't figure out how to get them from the SAPS when it is complete (since he cannot pick them up). Help!!! Also, do they need the apostille? I'm not familiar with that process, but I don't want the clearance to not be valid. Thanks for any advice!
  11. So Johannesburg consulate is apparently booked up for several months and our visa petition expires August 13th. I am just so frustrated that this isn't going as smoothly as we'd hoped. They only do interviews on Tuesdays and Thursdays so go figure. I am really hoping that there is someway I can get in before the visa expires. There has been so much money, time and effort into this and I am going on half a year without seeing my fiancé, it sucks. Anyone been through this particular situation before? Any good advice, what are the chances of scheduling an emergency review to get in before the expiry date. This is ridiculous that they expect the people to log onto a site everyday in hopes an appointment will open up.
  12. Hi everyone. Can anyone please guide me where to start getting medical/ vaccination records, if i dont have them. Do i contact my medical aid?
