  1. So I'm a non us citizen, and I got married on Sept 12 2018 to a USAF member and I haven't changed my passport name to my married name but in my dependant ID, command sponsorship are all in my married name(husband's last name), my passport doesn't expire till 2020 Dec 27 so I didn't change it yet but since we're PCS-ing to germany, would I run into trouble if my passport name and my command sponsorship/sofa visa name is different?? Or do I need to just bring my marriage certificate and other documents stating I use my maiden name and married name?
  2. Hello, I apologize if I'm asking something that's clearly written on 20 posts, but I just want to confirm from people who have actually done this (rather than a lot of hypotheticals.) My wife received her CR1 interview letter today, interview scheduled for May 22, which is very exciting! We have done all the paperwork ourselves, no lawyer, and so far so good. All paperwork has been filled out with her new Married name. The only issue that we didn't notice until just now is that NVC has been referring to her as her Maiden name. I understand now (which I did not before) that the Green Card will be issued only to the name on the passport. So in my mind, here are the possible scenarios: A) Attend interview, hope to present/reference marriage certificate with new name, cross our fingers and hope they put married name on visa? or B) Attend interview content with the fact that they will use her maiden name and we will have to go through all the processes later to change it. **Issues with both of the above: I have read some people have visas denied due to mismatching last name/improper name change documentation. (Ours is a California-issued marriage certificate with the name change on it) or C) Apply for an expedited UK passport with new name which should arrive within a week (lots of time before interview), and take new and old passport to interview **Issue in my mind: New document the NVC had never seen, will this cause an issue that it doesn't match what we've submitted and the name they've been using for her? I hope I've thought this all through and if not, feel free to let me know what I've missed. I'd appreciate if anyone has successfully completed options A or C. We are getting so excited for this incredible milestone and for this process to be over. We don't want to screw it up at the last step. If I tell my wife "I don't know, I've never done this before either" again, she might just call off the whole process 😂 Thanks so much in advance! I wish I had been using this site from the very start of our process! -T
  3. My dutch name on my passport and birth certificate has no middle name. I am planning to use my husband's last name for AOS. Based on my experience U.S. Names have middle names. Should I use my maiden last name as my new middle name? or should I not use a middle name on my U.S. documents? Note: If I apply for a new dutch passport they only include "wife of ..." Just wondered if this creates conflict with everything.
  4. Hello everyone! Need some answers to those who have experienced this. I just had my biometrics done and they put it under my maiden name cause I didn't get to bring my marriage certificate with me to my appointment. So now i'm assuming my ead/ap and gc will have my maiden name on it though I know I can still change my gc into my married name by the time of the interview. My question is, can I call USCIS now to change my name even before the interview? So that my ead/ap will already have my married name? cause when I filed for my aos I did included a copy of my marriage certificate anyway. TIA.
  5. hey guys. i just want to ask has anyone traveled outside the US with their passport name under maiden name and greencard is on married? how was your experience? did you have a hard time with it? Thanks
  6. Hello to all, If petitioner is a woman(who takes on her husband's last name) does she file with her maiden name or married name on behalf of her husband(the beneficiary)? CR-1 visa. Thanks
  7. I have a question regarding my "new" married name and how it affects my documents and IDs, etc. I'm already in the AOS status, having been married for almost 5 months now since I came here on the K1. My question is, which documents do I need to have changed to reflect my new last name? I added my husband's last name to my full first/last name. Which changes are needed and which ones are not so important? I am so confused and everything is just a mess with some of my documents reflecting the 'old' name, some with the 'new' name. Here are all the IDs/documents that are still in my 'old' name (or maiden name): - my passport - driver's license / car registration - home rental lease - credit cards / debit cards / bank accounts - car insurance - if I buy a home with him, which name do I use on the deed? This is what I have so far with my new married name / husband's last name - SSN - marriage certificate I wasn't sure how important it is to have everything changed and did not want to unnecessarily update everything unless it is required. However, if it is important to do so for every piece of document/ID, then of course I will. I ran into a little issue recently when I went for my biometrics, as my driver's license + passport was still my maiden name. I had to rush home to get the official marriage certificate as proof. I would like to avoid situations like this again, especially if I am to travel out of the US soon (vacation/honeymoon). Also, my current passport has the K1 visa stamp so I wasn't sure how getting a 'new' passport would affect this ongoing status adjustment/green card process with USCIS - since my case is linked to my passport #, etc. Any advice on what you did would be wonderful! I want to get all my ducks in a row and not wait until the last minute to do what is required :-)
  8. A question to the Dutch/American couples. I am in the process of obtaining a K1 visa and intend to marry my USC upon arrival around september/october. I intend to take his name upon marrying him. In the US, when you take your husbands name, your name officially changes. You no longer use your maiden name. In the Netherlands however your name does not officially change after marriage. You are allowed the use of your husbands name (even when dealing with the government and financial institutions), but you will always be officially registered by your maiden name. Your passport is in your maiden name. In the Netherlands you will have an addition on your passport saying 'wife of' to signify your marriage. My fiancé is worried that this will get me in trouble. I will have my Dutch passport as an identifying document in one name, and my greencard in another. Worse yet, when I apply for citizenship later on I will have two passports in two different names. He is worried officers will not understand and will arrest me for identity fraud. I understand there is a way that lets you change your official Dutch name to your married name based on a law of conflicting names(?) where one countries laws dictate a different use of name than another and you choose one law that the other country has to obide by. But if I do that it will also change my name on my birthcertificate. I do not want that. And yes, I understand that I can also choose to keep my maiden name to avoid all this trouble. I don't want that either. Me and my fiancé are pretty traditional in these matters. I want to take his name. I want to know: has anyone ever gotten in trouble for this? I understand a lot of people will just fly by without ever having to deal with this and tell me not to worry.
  9. Hello, I just joined this community and feel so blessed that I found here! I hope everyone is doing well I am preparing marriage based green card by myself, and have a question on maiden name and married name. Could you please help me on these questions? I wrote down my situation using bullet points. 1) I just got the marriage certificate, but was told by Vital record office that Ilinois only shows the maiden name on the marriage certificate and there is no such thing like "married name" field on the certificate. 2) I prepared all the documents with my married name even though marriage certificate only has the maiden name. 3) However, I already have my SSN with my maiden name. My passport also shows my maiden name. My country does not change the last name even though I am married. In this situation, I have two concerns regarding the name. 1) filing green card with my married name would be an issue? I am very worried if having only maiden name in my marriage certificate would be enough to show the name change. 2) My last document that I have to get is i-693. In this case, should I get this i-693 under my maiden name? or should it be my new name? Actually, I have no idea if I even have a married name since marriage certificate only shows my maiden name. Thank you so much for reading this!
  10. I am a U.S. citizen. I just married my wife in Nigeria on July 2017. When we got our marriage certificate later, she put in her maiden name instead of her married name (my last name). I am currently filling out a I-130 form for her to move to the U.S. after she finishes college this year. Should I put in her married name in the form or her maiden name as it shows in the marriage certificate? And would the fact that she didn't put in her new married name affect the process in any way?
  11. Hello all , I am a beneficiary for IR1CR1 VISA . My husband is at USA ND I am in India . While jotting down all the documents required at NVC Stage I just learnt that I will need a police clearance certificate from regional Passport office . Filling out the form I realised the following facts My passport is in my maiden name . Nither I have added spouse name to it yet . ( My i130 forms etc were filed on maiden name too ) Now there is a detail on form which asks me if I am married and if so my spouse information . If I add my spouse information will it conflict with my passport data ND create problem with police clearance certificate . If I don't add his name I am declaring a false information that I am not married so what should I do ? And before submitting DS260 261 do I require to change to married name . ??
  12. Hello everyone! I came here on a fiance visa and got married in August. Today I got an RFE asking for more proof of my name, they state that on my forms I used the name Marina G (married name) but that on their records it says that I am Marina L (maiden name). I have sent my wedding certificate together with my application and in all the forms when asked for other names used I wrote my maiden name. I am really confused because so far all the information I saw was that people that have had their names changed used their married names on the Adjustment of Status, EAD and AP forms! Have anyone seen anything like this? I can't find our mistake!
  13. Hello everyone. My husband and I got married in Brazil, last July. I'm a Green Card holder (permanent resident). As soon as I got back to the U.S., I applied for his immigration petition. He already has a receipt number, as well as priority date. We just bought his flight ticket to the U.S. in order to visit me in december, so that we can spend Christmas together. He changed his surname position on his birth certificate just before our marriage (because I want it to be our family name): He placed his middle name at the end of it, being now his last name (e.g.: "John Smith Mclane" changed to "John Mclane Smith"). Our marriage certificate applied for the petition is accordingly with it (his new name). However, his passport and tourist Visa contains his previous surname's order. Both names were informed in the Forms (I-130, I-130a), as maiden name and married name.We filled his flight ticket according to his passport and tourist Visa (maiden name). Since I will already have started his immigration petition under his new name, we don't want it to be an issue for him when passing through the immigration to visit me. Does he have to change his surname on his passport - updating it - before he comes in December? Or it will be enough if he just carry our marriage certificate, in case of an issue? His passport and tourist visa only expire in 2021. Thank you so much in advance, for any and all responses.
