  1. Hi everyone, My fiance had his fiance K1 visa interview today, and it went great, they told him he was approved and kept his passport and told him he would get it in 5 days via mail. Within less than an hour of leaving the embassy, he received an email that said he needs to provide his CV and work history and it said "Before we can continue processing your visa application, we need you to send the information and/or documents marked urgent to us. No further action can be taken on your file before this information reaches our office." He sent his CV immediately and they responded that they received it. His case status is now in administrative processing. For context: We've been together over 3 years, have spent TONS of time together, gave ample evidence, did all the steps properly. This was in Turkey, and my finace has a chemical engineering degree (we read this happens with people who have STEM degrees). Has this happened to anyone else before? Others talking about administrative processing talk about being denied, and need to provide more info, but that's not our case. Or they talk about being in administrative processing with no clear reason why. We're reading online it could be in AP for up to 6 months, but were confused because they said he was approved and he would get his visa/passport back in 5 days. Before you suggest we check the embassy website or call/email them, we've checked everything. He called after he sent it in, they said email your question, and hung up. Nothing is on the website about this specific situation. Any thoughts on this? Thank you!
  2. Hi everyone, My fiancee and I applied for a K-1 visa long ago, I had my medical exam already and my interview in Ankara is on Tuesday 11th. When looking for what documents are required, we always saw that we need to submit the I-134 affidavit of support only, that's also what our lawyer said. I received an email from the embassy, however, which I noticed too late because it landed in junk mails, that says that we also need the I-864. In the mail there is the I-864 and I-134 in the "All applicants" section but the I-864 is not in the "details for each applicant" section. This is a bit confusing and it's the first time that I read I need that form for a K-1 visa. Do you think we should get it done quickly with high shipment costs or do I misunderstand something? I appreciate your help. Extract of email is below with only the important details: Documents to bring with you (all applicants) * I-134, Affidavit of Support (Original), If you are a Diversity or Fiancée Visa applicant and you have a sponsor, then you should use I-134 Affidavit of Support form. * I-864, Affidavit of Support (Photocopy). Details for each applicant Applicant 1: R. A. Status: Interview Scheduled; Interview Appointment: 11 July 2017, 08:30 Documents and/or Actions Required: * I-134, Affidavit of Support (Photocopy).
  3. Hello Everyone, My fiance has the K1 interview in one week, and we were unsure if our "original" birth certificate and police certificate were sufficient for the US Embassy in Ankara. We retrieved the birth certificate and police report online through Turkey's e-government (e-devlet) website. Both documents have barcodes in the corner to prove that they are certified. Per Ankara's K1 interview instructions: "Birth certificates for Turkey are called “Nufus Kayit Ornegi”. Please provide an original." However, it does not say whether the birth certificate from the e-government website constitutes an "original." Furthermore, according to https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Turkey.html, birth certificates can be obtained through, "General Directorate of Civil Registration and Citizenship (Nüfus ve Vatandaşlık İşleri Genel Müdürlüğü) and e-Government website." Has anyone gone to the interview with the birth certificate and police certificate that were obtained from the online website? My fiance went to the Family Registry Office this morning, but they told him they could not issue birth certificates for visa purposes. Thank you for the help!
  4. Hello! Do you have to wait to hear from the consulate in Ankara, Turkey before you file your DS-160, or can you go ahead and submit it as soon as you get the notification from the NVC that they've sent your file? Thanks, Sam
  5. Hello everyone, Sam and I been lurking here on VJ for so long since before we started our process back in February, y'all have been most helpful, whether the questions, answers, timelines.. you name it. Some background info: I was born in Qatar and lived there my whole life (except for the yearly vacations), never spent more than 5 months in Egypt (country of citizenship), in the last 10 years I only been to Egypt once for 5 weeks. My police clearance issued from Qatar states the covered duration as my DOB till Feb '19. Which is technically my whole life. I moved to Turkey for good early March '19. Question is, do I still need a police clearance from Egypt? Since one of the required evidence for the DS160 is a police report from country of nationality/ 6 months stay . Or should it be the 6 month country stay mentioned as another condition? In that case I don't need to dive into that hassle of figuring out how to get one. Another question, any one here in VJ who is none-Turkish resident of Turkey has experience with K-1 visa process at the US consult in Ankara? How was it? any additional documents required? Thanks in Advance!
  6. Starting this forum to try and collect more information on Administrative Processing at the US Embassy in Ankara. I have been in AP for 2 months now. I am Syrian, and my wife is a US citizen. We are applying for my spouse visa. We started in March 2017. My wife is now in the US. We don't know if she should move back to Turkey to be with me. We want to know if anyone has been issued a visa waiver from Ankara under the travel ban. I noticed today that the Ankara Embassy website status check page is updated automatically (https://tr.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/iv-status-check/)... meaning that my case updates are pretty meaningless. But ceac.state.gov seems to be more accurate. Does anyone know if case updates mean anything at all? Thanks all. Kat and Bashar
  7. Hello everyone! So we finally booked our interview and schedule medical appointment. I'm about to send the documents to him but I'm going over them again and I noticed my I-134 says it expired in November. Does this mean I cant use it? I'm getting worried all over again.
  8. Hi guys, just wanted to update you all.. I got my interview date and its on the 24th of September, and I got a letter that supports my case from the US General Consul in Istanbul. My wife is moving back to the states to establish domicile (we're trying to avoid anything that might cause us any unnecessary delays). I also recently got accepted to Columbia University in New York. Now I'm wondering if there's anything extra we should prepare for the interview, any tips or advice will be much appreciated. Specifically I'm wondering exactly what original documents we need to bring (apart from my civil documents) and what extra information will be helpful for qualifying for the waiver. Thank you all, bashar and kat
