I think I flew to the US on my ESTA, because when the USCIS officer asked “purpose of visit?”, and I answered “I’m immigrating” he looked like he’d seen a ghost. After he had found the visa in my passport I went to secondary screening for 5 minutes, before I was on my way! Peaceful encounter 😊

Super smooth entry, arrived into Newark as connecting to Denver. Arrivals hall pretty empty so quickly up to CBP who went through paperwork and I went into secondary processing whilst family (US Citizens) went through to baggage reclaim. Sat in secondary for less than 5 mins before being called forward to verify a few details and then passport page with immigrant visa page stamped (Temp Green card for one year) welcomed to the United States and allowed to proceed to rejoin family. Super smooth and friendly officials.

It was very easy, I didn't have envelope with me, as my case was processed digitally. I was asked several questions from officer:
1. My husband's name and phone number
2. Who did fill my case and who is my sponsor was
3. My address, where I am going to live and get my green card
4. Do I have food and gifts with me
It was very easy and relaxed conversation with some jokes
Then I went for double checks to special room, I wait for 10-15 minutes and officer just explained that I can use my immigration visa for travelling outside the US due to that getting green card can take 6 months. Because of pandemic US government allows to use the entry immigration visa for travelling if you have delays in green card.

Immigration queue was short. The immigration officer saw my visa and took me to the secondary room. The secondary room was hot, dark, loud and hadn’t been updated since the 80s. Behind the screens were approx 12 CBP officers. All drinking coffee and laughing and joking with each other. Only two guys on the computers actually reviewing cases. Approx 10 people in the waiting area. It took 20mins.
My name was called out and I approached the screen. The CBP officer grunted and pointed to my mask. I assume that meant to take it off. I took it off and he looked at my visa, stamped passport and threw it at me. No goodbye no welcome nothing. Literally threw it at me.
Such a horrible welcome to the US.
