Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Originally applied via Johannesburg office, but due to Covid was unable to leave USA and continue application in South Africa so applied for AOS.
My husband had his interview yesterday in Dallas and his Card is being processed!
We arrived at 8:00 for our 8:40 appt. Our Lawyer was with us. It is a bit like the airport where you stand in line to go through security. Really thorough, but extremely friendly guys. One guy had a pocket knife and was sent to put in his car, but told to come to front of line on his return. Very respectfully done.
Once inside we were told which line to get into to have biometrics checked. Lots of staff, so maybe took us 5 mins to get to front of line. The lady was very sweet and teased me about my husband. Really put me as ease. She just took a photo and checked fingerprints and we were done.
Then upstairs. Gave paperwork (that came in mail) and was called about 10 minutes later. Super clean. We were called by a very efficient young lady. She checked both our passports, and looked at SS card that arrived recently. Then Hubby swore his oath. Then she asked him loads of questions, firstly his full name, then address, did he have kids. She asked when he arrived in USA and he couldn't remember, so I started to say something and she told me "He is under oath here, not you", or words to that effect. In other words, shut up! I did!! She then went over many of the questions asked on form I-485. It took about 10 mins. She then said that she needed to do some additional Background check and we would hear within 30 days. Well by the time we had stopped for breakfast and been shopping I got home and checked the USCIS website, it said that the Card was being processed. She didn't ask to see any other paperwork at all. Now this could have been because we had originally applied for I-130 and was already approved, but due to Covid came to USA. So just a formality. The agent was polite, but no personality showed through. Whereas our lawyer saw another client after us and said their Agent was super friendly and they chatted about all sorts of stuff. I guess it is just on the day and the person you get. But heck, it was ok! Good luck to you all.

Went very smoothly. Security was like at the airport. We waited for about 30 minutes to be called after we got in. Officer was kind but efficient. All questions were directed to the applicant. We didn’t get an immediate approval but it came a few days later.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

To start... we did arrive about 30 minutes before our allotted time. But from the moment we pulled in to the parking lot till we drove off was 1.5 hours.

We arrived and waited out side for about 25 minutes. once inside we did the temp check, followed by the TSA security check. Bags, pockets, paperwork, shoes in buckets and scanned. Simple and Easy. You check in on the ground level and once your fingerprints and photo is taken you are cleared to the upstairs waiting room. You check-in with the Receptionist and then you wait. It was a bit noisy and sometimes hard to hear the names being called. So I suggest sitting closer to the front. once our name was called, we proceeded to an office and the total interview was only about 20 minutes. The officer was kind and friendly. He Laughed out loud at our preparations for the interview. We had multiple binders each with all our filing documents as well as back up documents. They made it so much less stressful. At the end of the interview we were informed that we should check the website at 4/4:30pm to see if there is an update. If our case was approved the website will say card being produced.

Simple and easy!!!!

Our interview was scheduled for 8am. We were running a little bit late, which was very stressful but nobody noticed or said anything. I got really nervous because of being late but the officers were understanding. Because of COVID, they are are checking your temperature before proceeding into the actual lobby. They also direct you to put your purse and papers into a plastic basket just like at the airport so they can scan it and you need to walk through a scanner too! Once you're done with this security check, you continue to another officer who directs you to go to the next available counter, which was fairly quick without much waiting. A lady checked us in, took my picture and finger prints and also stamped my appointment notice. Once she was done, we were directed to go upstairs into the 2nd level where there was a much bigger lobby with a lot more people waiting for their appointment.

We handed over our appointment notice to the receptionist and was told to take a seat and wait for our name to be called. Our wait was much shorter than expected. After only 10 minutes or less my name was called by a female officer who greeted us friendly and let us know to follow her into her office. She swore us in and started going through our file, which became quite thick over the past few years. She requested my passport, the K-1 visa which I used to enter the country, and my Social Security Card, same as our marriage license. My husband also had to provide his ID. While she was busy with those, she asked me to provide her with some evidence which shows our daily life together as a married couple. I pulled out wedding pictures, day-to-day pictures, our current and past apartment lease, bank statements, joint health insurance and vet bills. She seemed satisfied with that and started going through the i-485, verifying everything including all the Yes/No questions. I was very nervous at the beginning and blanked out when she asked about our previous address since we have moved right after applying for AOS but those Yes/No questions calmed me down a little at the end.

She then asked if we had questions about ROC and started wrapping up things without asking any additional questions, which kinda surprised us. We expected some relationship specific questions to be asked but none of that happen. She opened the door to the hallway and proceeded towards the lobby where we came from! And that's pretty much it. On the way out, we noticed a lot more people coming into the USCIS office, so it seemed like we just had beaten the rush!

In the evening of the same day, my status changed to "New Card has been processed" and we knew I got approved for the 2 year greencard. Case switched to "Case was approved" the next day! Overall a good experience. In and out within 20-25 minutes.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We had our interview two days ago, it went well and was very quick ! The IO was chill and professional, he asked us how we met and he reviewed the I-485 application with the yes/no questions.
He only asked to see my passport, copies of my Birth certificate and our marriage license that he gave me back at the end. He said that he got everything unless he needs something else he'll ask us for it and that I should receive my Green card in a couple of week and if I didn't in 4 weeks I should contact the USCIS. Our appointment was at 1:30pm and we were out by 2pm.
When we got home in less than an hour, I checked our status and it said " New card is being produced ".
It was a great experience that exceeded our expectations !
